Unless something drastically changes or little elves begin making shoes on top of it–beating it up a bit– this guy will never get touched with a paint brush.
Never. I think. I found it at Troy Antiques, sitting perfect as is, and all but screaming, “PUT ME IN THE DINING ROOM. YESTERDAY!”
While the original plan didn’t call for any furniture except the built in’s, in reality, the wall is a lot larger than this inspiration drawing.
I think it will sit perfectly in the middle of the wall, the gallery art surrounding it and these gorgeous seagrass lamps.
I just could NOT pass them up at TJ Maxx the other day. In fact, after spotting them, along with all my other finds, I headed back up front to grab a buggy. I thought I saw someone picking them up and checking them out (there were only two) and I all but sprinted back to that aisle just in time to calmly place them in my cart.
(for the record, the nice, unsuspecting lady actually picked up 2 other lamps. I didn’t steal these from her…I’m not that crazy. Yet.)
I love the texture against this antique buffet…and man, is it a beauty in my book. I love the old, tarnished brass hardware, and the planked sides…I’m in love with every nook and cranny, really.
So while the dining room is not finished, we’re making some great progress and pulling things together. I’ll be painting the paneling tomorrow, and let me just say, there may be a magic marker involved.
Stay tuned…but until then, what do you think???
um, if those lamps dissappear, you know what happened to them. and great find, on the unpainted piece shaunna!
I know, right?? Thanks, girl! Great talking with you today!
😀

I’m so glad to hear that beautiful wood color gets to keep being all fabulous for the whole world to see. It’s GORGEOUS. And I wouldn’t have blamed you for stealing those seagrass lamps from the unsuspecting shopper, then sprinting to the checkout line and laughing victoriously. If that’s what it took. 🙂
A girl after my own heart… 😀
shaunna
Oh swoon! I want the lamps and the piece you’ll never paint! GORG! And the paneling is looking amazing. I think a trip to TJMaxx is in order soon! I wish there weren’t miles and miles between us because we could go together. 🙂 xo
Just lovely the way it is…and yes..when it speaks to you ,you MUST introduce it to your home.
I love it just the way it is!
Susan
oh my goodness, I am dying over your lamps! Just the other day I was googling seagrass shades, I never even thought of it as lamp base. Darling, and I adore the wood dresser too.
I love her!!!! 😉 So fun to find them perfect…well, perfectly imperfect, right? lol I cant wait to see the room! it will be like Xmas! 🙂 Xo, Meme
Yes, yummy texture indeed! That space is going to be incredible ! LOVE the paneling too!

Kate

chris
I agree, don’t touch it!!! What a gorgeous piece!
There is a time for everything; a time to paint and a time to just let the wood shine. Love the inspiration board and cannot wait to see the reveal!
It is a BEAUTIFUL piece. Glad to see you are leaving it as is!
I think you scored big time,,beautiful,, yup this is a winna winna chicken dinna,, I’m so very jealous,
This is such a beautiful piece! I love it! I am in the process of re-finishing a desk and my initial thoughts were to paint it. Then I started thinking that I would just stain it and after seeing this beauty I am leaning more towards staining than ever!
This is picture perfect! What a great find on the lamps and the chest! Love the mixing of texture!
Check out my lamp I got at TJ Maxx this past weekend in Gulfport, MS. I saw those seagrass lamps and just about grabbed them too but I’m really overrun with lamps…but they are simple gorgeous. I’m here in Montgomery (too) so I’ll look out for you in the aisle of TJ when I’m in there….don’t take anything out of my buggy girl! (LOL)
Judy
What a lovely piece, I wouldn’t paint it either!
oh wow, I LOVE the piece!! that is incredible!!!
the lamps are amazing too- exactly what I need for our guest room- too bad we dont have a tjmaxx in canada!
It’s a beautiful piece!
I saw those exact lamps at Homesene up here (in Ajax, Ontario, Canada)!!! They look great on your be-oo-tiful dresser!! Nice finds, Shaunna.
xo,
Shannon
(PS. Homesense = TJ Maxx in Canada. You know, in case anyone was wondering!)
thanks Shannon! I found those lamps at our Homesense too!! Yea!!
very nice, I love slapping paint on furniture too….but I have a piece that I will never paint too…sometimes you just have to enjoy the natural beauty.
LOVE IT a la naturale!-a SERIOUSLY BEEEEUUUtifuLLL piece-sometimes you feel like paint, sometimes you don’t-have an oooold armoire that won’t see paint in my lifetime-also a Hayward Wakefield bed-gorgeous as is-but dying to paint it silver…any thoughts?-input welcome
your blog is a happy spot in my day-thanks a bunch! xo

I love it all, including those lamps. Trade ya for your big dining room space! Can’t wait to see the finished room. Next time my husband rolls his eyes at my “big ideas,” I’m gonna show him your website for comparison. Hee hee hee.
Gorgeous, Shaunna! Love those lamps too. Wow that is going to be a stunning space. Don’t blame you for not painting that piece, it is perfect as is. Hope to see you girlies again soon! xoxo
Beautiful… as tempting as it is to paint every bare wood surface, this should be left as is. For now, anyway. 🙂 By the way, I saw those lamps at the TJ Maxx in my area and pondered them but didn’t buy them. Now I’m dying to go on my lunch hour tomorrow to grab them. Keeping fingers crossed they’re still there!
Wow! Congrats on the great find!!!! It’s gorgeous 🙂
This buffet is perfect! I love the colour of the wood and wouldn’t paint it either. It will look stunning (already is, but…) against the painted wall. I can’t wait to see it all.
It’s gorgeous! Just the way it is! Have a beautiful day, Kellie xx
Great find! And I am now anxiously waiting to see what you do with the marker! 🙂
That buffet is a beautiful piece of furniture. I wouldn’t take a paintbrush to it, either! Love those lamps! Our TJ Maxx NEVER has anything that cool. 🙁 Maybe i need to run over there more often, though.
Love that piece!! I just snagged 2 of those exact lamps! Not quite sure if I need both though…wish I had a piece like yours to put them one! I didn’t have a cart either but luckily there was an empty cart nearby so I didn’t have to sprint back from the front of the store. Seems if I grab a cart on the way in I find nothing, if I don’t grab one I find oodles of things. At TJ’s you gotta grab things when you spot ’em!
The wood has enough personality and warmth as it is, I don’t blame you. I adore those lamps! If my schedule wasn’t full I’d head to TJ Maxx asap. It will have to wait till next week, however. Sigh..
I wanted to let you know I wrote about what I learned in my AS chalk paint class today…I am going to do it in parts….Thought it would be fun to know your thoughts on it…Xo, Meme
I agree w/ you 100%!! That piece is beautiful and it doesn’t need a drop of paint! And those lamps…*swooning*…they are perfect! Your story about finding them cracked me up cuz I had a similar experience last month. I found this beautiful lamp at Marshall’s and of course I didn’t have a buggy. My arms were already full of other fabulous finds so I had to speed walk up to the front to get a buggy. When I rounded the corner of the isle and found a lady standing there- I nearly tackled her!! Luckily, I mustered up some form of self control and waited for her to move along. When she left I nearly squealed as I placed it in the buggy! I’m glad I’m not the only one whose done something like this!
Some things are just perfect the way they are…and this piece for sure is one!! Great find! And those lamps are to die for!! 🙂
I think my sister got a dresser almost just like yours out of our childhood home’s attic. It was naturally crazed and crackled, but she stripped it, which I thought was a mistake at the time. But it turned out even more beautiful, just like yours. So pretty!
Absolutely gorgeous! Those lamps are incredible and I love they way they look on the antique buffet.
i know what you mean. lst yr. i found a wormwood dresser at an antique shop. that also is one ill never paint. somebody shootme if i do.:) anyway the lamps look really neat and perfect for this time of yr. too!
These lamps ARE gorgeous–can we ever leave TJMaxx without getting a buggy? And, I love the unpainted buffet. It reminds me of our bedroom furniture–as much as I’d like to brighten it up in there, I’d like to keep something with its original finish. Stick to your guns!
