Remember that DIY reclaimed wood wall art I made for Grayson’s room?
I knew I wanted to utilize that big wall to include some storage. He’s already got a large Ikea unit in there, so I wanted to introduce a softer shape for additional storage.
Enter canvas bag storage.
It makes my smile work.
🙂
And canvas storage with lettering or type? Even better.
Enter this lovely lady. I mean, really. Who looks like this with no makeup on? And in their 50’s????
My mama rocks my world.
She is beautiful, inside and out. Strong, and resolute in trials. I admire her courage to be creative, to do her own thing…and have no regrets for doing so. I love that she loves SO fiercely and is loyal to depths I cannot fathom.
And the woman can sew. Here’s a little video of my INTRO to sewing…be warned. There’s not much action yet. But you do get to see my mom.
🙂
See what I mean?
We had SUCH a fun day, and I actually learned a little this time. Thanks, mom!!!
And yes, we did get around to some of this that day.
I can tell this sewing thing is going to change my DIY world.
And so would 2 of these sconces.
Alas, I’m not sure I can convince Matt.
But I won’t stop trying.
😉
Yeah for moms! Have fun learning to sew – I can’t wait to learn more than the basics!!! Lol. It’s going to look so great!
I’m just learning too. It can be frustrating but it is so much fun when you get the hang of it. Your mom is adorable and you are lucky to have her to show you the ropes. Those scones are fab.
GOOD FOR YOU!!!! HAHAHAHA welcome to the addiction of making things for your home on a whole new level! And your mom is supacute. 😉
Awesome! Your mom looks fabulous. Maybe I’ll finally have to pull out my old machine and make my way through my mountain of ‘to do’ projects.
I was going to do the same thing in my boys’ new room, with fisherman sconces. Wow! Great minds think alike. Love your sewing partner. She is adorable.
Your mom is Beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!Great genes 🙂
Your mom is adorable. 🙂
i love this … i’ve dabbled with sewing but my machine is inherited from my now deceased grandma, circa 1950s or so. i spotted a new singer one at costco yesterday (the price was fab!) and am toying with asking my hubby for it for christmas! fun days ahead!! 🙂
Good for you!! I love sewing. I can’t sew a straight line to save my life, but I love it!! 🙂 I’m borrowing my MIL’s machine for now but she’s getting me my own for Christmas! You should look on Pinterest at all the cute skirts you can make for you little girl, or just add some ruffles to the bottoms of some jeans that don’t fit her anymore, the possibilities are endless with a sewing machine and some 50% off fabric!! 🙂
Cute 🙂 You are right about the sewing thing changing your world. My gram, who recently passed away, taught me 20 years ago when I was living with her in Florida for a bit & then I never sewed again until a couple weeks ago. When I finished my curtain panel, I felt like another world openned up for stuff I could make b/c before, the fear of the sewing machine (she would basically work it/fix it) for me and I would push the floor pedal, kept me from tyring to make anything related to sewing! Now I feel like, I want to sew everything 🙂 !!!! It’s a good feeling!
That’s so funny! I am planning on sewing lessons beginning in January. I have a dear friend who has graciously agreed to teach me. Although, I really wish I had paid attention in Home Ec class all those years ago.
yay! I am so proud of you for attempting something new. You’re going to be hooked and very shortly will be begging your hubbs to buy you a serger. Have so much fun!
Hurray! You won’t regret learning to sew – I can’t wait to see all the gorgeous things you’ll whip up!
PS: Your Mom? Fabulous.
Your Mom is pretty. 🙂 Like Mother like Daughter…and Daughter’s Daughter too! The sunglasses and seeing glasses made me giggle…b/c now I do that too!
Ahhhh your Mom is darling!!!
And good for you…you will love what you will be able to do!
Happy sewing!
Im getting a new machine next week!
Deborah xoxo
Shut UP!! That’s not your mom, that’s your sister!!!
Please post everything!! I can’t sew either, even though I do, but it is always such a disaster! Maybe it is because my edge was crooked. I mean, who knew??!!
Don’t you just love moms?
Thank goodness for Mothers! My Mom taught me how to sew when I was in first grade. She let my sister and I help her make squares for quilts.
Love the Canvas bags. What a great idea. Can’t wait to see what you come up with.
Where site can I find those lamps?
Yay! I’m so excited for you and your mom is so cute! I learned to sew as a kid and have used that skill my entire life – I can’t even imagine not knowing how. This will definitely change your world! 🙂
The apple didn’t fall far from the tree!
You and your mother are cute and make a great team.
Your talent and creativity is in your genes for sure!
No! Don’t learn to sew! Let me sew for you 😉 Just kidding! I’m excited for you. Sewing is one of my favorite things to do, and it will DEFINITELY change your DIY landscape. Happy sewing!
I have been sewing in a major way since I was 12. My husband said the other day that we are able to live in such a beautiful home because of all the DIY things I do for free. Sewing slipcovers, drapes, pillow, duvets, etc are all part of that. Also all the power tools are MINE!! He can hardly operate the microwave! I have always been willing to try anything and have learned a lot in the process. Sounds like your Mom has that same attitude. Enjoy sewing – and check out all the blogs that are nuts about painters dropcloths – I am addicted. Lots of fabric for hardly any $.
Thanks honey! I love you and you do such a wonderful job!!! You are my inspiration!!!!! The bags are gonna be great by the way!
