I said this on the podcast a couple of weeks ago: To become we must do. I was talking about creative learning, taking risks, starting over. But of course, it’s more than that.

Currently, this boy is becoming by doing something very specific, very mundane, very utilitarian.

Begrudgingly, I might add.

But he does things all the time. He has since the beginning. His beginning. He comes to my room and talks to me. He listens. He’s too hard on himself and I have to remind him to be gentle with him. He then tries to do that. He does hard things and he does easy things.

He rests.

As a matter of fact, sometimes the thing we must “do” to become is rest. Heal, pray, lean on, breathe.

No act of doing (and not doing) is too small, too insignificant, or one more important than the other.

To become we must do.

What do you need to do today?

I know my list. I feel it. Sometimes I feel guilt over it, or sometimes I feel empowered by it. But the becoming pulls at me.

Do what it is you need to do today.

And become.
