The perfectly styled rooms (well, not perfect, but you know what I mean), & the super-tidy spaces.
It’s not reality. In fact, these are fleeting and momentary, usually lasting just long enough for me to snap a picture for you guys.
Take this, for example…
Pillows smashed, coffee table styling null, a half-Fall-half-Christmas mantel for shooting…plus, one flesh colored balloon still inflated from last year’s grand opening.
Weird phenomenon, that balloon.
If you head into our dining room, you’ll find all sorts of things. We have wreaths in progress, coffee for days, and bats left from Gray’s party. (Hey, Lettered Cottage friends– reading y’all on my break that day! 😉 )
There are stacks and stacks of boxes all over the place and most of the house stays dark because I’m shooting all the time.
But you know the thing about messes?
They kind of guarantee a certain amount of major productivity.
I love this post because you are keeping it real. We all want our homes to look like a cover of a magazine or a home tour on our favorite blog. However, that is not the case always. This reminds me of Isaiah 61:3 ‘”to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.” There IS beauty in messes. It means that life is being lived, memories are being made (such as the story of the balloon), family is loved and projects are being completed. Keep up the good work. Have a blessed day.
I don’t normally leave comments on the blogs that I read, but I wanted to comment on this post and say a huge THANK YOU!! I LOVE your blog and how beautiful everything always looks, but it is so nice to get an honest view of things. I love seeing the pretty, but it’s so nice to see that even your beautiful house has messes sometimes. Thank you again for sharing your realty 🙂 Honestly, it was just what this mommy of three little ones needed!
Thank you for sharing your home. I love seeing that it is lived in. Beautiful and messy all at the same time… Love it!!! I noticed your Entertainment center is painted . Is that a chalk paint color ? I have been searching on how to paint mine. Your picture has inspired me . Would you share the color you used and how you painted it?
I get the messes . . . I have three little boys running around who leave toys, socks, shoes, and general trail of dust wherever they go. Then there is me and my “projects” sitting around, and my husband’s love of piling things on top of any flat surface he can find 🙂 It’s good to remember that it is impossible to keep things “perfect”.
On another note, when are they milk paint finalists going to be announced?
Thanks!
Love it! Thank you for this post! Life is messy. I’m a bit OCD about neatness but try to be happy that, when I need it to be, our home does clean up well!
I am in love with the sconces in your foyer! Will you carry them in your online shop?
I have been trying to email you, but it doesn’t seem to be working.
Thanks again,
Melanie
Thanks for your blog. You are realistic. That helps us realize we must live in our houses, not only decorate them.
THANK YOU for writing this! I work so hard to make and keep my house beautiful, but it’s a process and it gets MESSY. Just last week i realized how upset and frustrated it makes me-even when I don’t show it. Seeing this post helps me see that my house isn’t the only one that doesn’t look all Pinteresty all the time and that is OKAY! haha. Your home is beautiful btw!
