“Live with intention. Do what you love.” -m.a. hadmacher
That’s what I’m doing…and I love getting to share it with you, because you guys were the reason I began painting and continued blogging, turning hobbies into business and passion.
And it’s a good thing I love this…because pieces like this can be stubborn. I just knew this would be an easy one. For the most part it was…
I painted it with chalk paint, mixing 3 parts Old White with one part Aubusson Blue, giving me a soft blue-gray.
To be honest, while I was shooting this piece, I couldn’t help but notice how pretty it was beside the daybed we built. I am still in love with it, and it remains one of my favorite pieces and projects we’ve tackled.
After stripping the top, I saw it was a little water damaged, and kind of splotchy…no matter how many times it was stripped. (A post on furniture stripping coming very soon!) In typical “me” fashion, I watered down my blue-gray-green chalk paint, and washed the top.
I’m a sucker for original hardware, so it stayed, and the whole table got a coat of Hannant’s Clear Wax.
Thank you for all of your questions about chalk paint…keep them coming! Just leave me a comment today, and I’ll be sure to include it in my Chalk Paint FAQ Post tomorrow!
I’ve got a video coming as well…I hope. I was kind of random while filming, so I may have to re-shoot that little treasure for you. 😉
And because I’m having entirely too much fun in photoshop…
What projects have you been painting lately?? I can’t wait to share more about chalk paint with you tomorrow…see you then!

I love that mix. I posted some blue and gray bookshelves today and wish now that I had washed the top. Your end table is just lovely. Can’t wait for your chalk paint post.
Thanks, Kara! I’ll head over and check out your bookshelves!

It’s gorgeous! I love it! I am so curious as to where you get your blue tinted mason jars, so cute!?
Thanks, Lisa! Just at flea markets all over….they’re usually at least a few in each one. Locally, I picked up several at Eastbrook Antique and Flea Mall in Montgomery, AL….never pay more than $5 per jar…they’re out there for that price, so keep looking!
🙂

Wow! I have the SAME EXACT table, in it’s before state. I have to paint it now!!
Well, good luck, Ann!!! Go for it!
🙂

I love the color and the little table is so cute! I have a buffet and hutch that have the same handles on it! I have debated whether to paint them or not, I love how this little table turned out…..got me thinking! 🙂
Jodi
Hey Jodi! Yeah, these pieces are always so pretty painted. But…when they’re in great condition, they’re beautiful in their natural state, too. You can’t go wrong!
🙂

thank you for introducing me to chalk paint and I love your blog. I have a question about chalk paint: Do you think that it could be used to paint kitchen cabinets?
You’re more than welcome, Carol! Thanks for your question, and I’ll cover that today!
🙂

I love the little table and I think your daybed is probably one of my favorite projects I’ve seen…ever! Love how the top turned out on the table also. Looks…beachy.
Looking forward to the chalk paint post tomorrow. I’ve only done one piece, but I love it and want to try more colors.
Until tomorrow…
I’ll take beachy, Gloria!! Thank you! I’m excited about the post, too…it was good for me to compile all the thoughts in one place. Helps my scattered brain!

Just finished a bear of a project! Apparently laminated MDF was super popular in the 60’s & 70’s… well Chalk paint did the trick! I changed a massive dark part of my house, that I used to secretly wish would fall over and break into a million pieces, b/c it was too heavy to cart to the corner {it came with the house}! Into a beautiful piece that I now treasure. Old White with a Duck Egg back wall… display my eclectic collection of “stuff” beautifully!
That’s awesome, Kamma!!! I’ll come check it out in a while…did you post it on your blog?
If not, send me some pics!
🙂
shaunna
Need to get the glass put back in and take a proper pix!
But I will send the initial before and afters to you!
{And I need to start a blog!}
Hey, girl, it looks beautiful in that color! I have got to try me some chalk paint, it is all over blogland. I had that exact same end table in my old bathroom, painted a creamy white. Very versatile piece. Hope to see you soon!! xoxo
Thank you, friend. I miss you! We should all plan a weekend getaway to come see you or us all meet somewhere. I need to order some beadboard wallpaper from you, too. Hope you’re doing so well…your porch was FABULOUS!
🙂

Can you use Chalk Paint in a sprayer? How far does one can stretch?
Thanks for your question, Christi…I’ll cover that in my post today!
🙂

So pretty! I love that top. I’m having so much fun with the chalk paint, too. Can’t wait to read your thoughts about it!
Thanks, friend!! Me too. Loved your dresser!
🙂
shaunna
That looks really pretty, Shaunna. Love the blue. I have not tried chalk paint yet.
Thanks, Allison! You should go for it…you’ll love it!
🙂
shaunna
Oh, does it ever look cute! I have two similar ones I was thinking of getting rid of…maybe not??
??? Not sure…it’s hard for me to get rid of furniture! I’m a bit of a pack rat where that’s concerned! 😀
shaunna
Love the little table and the color that you created is so pretty. I also love the blue mason jar displayed on top.
hugs
Sissie
Thanks Sissie!

Beautiful table.
Thank you, Terry!

The table is really cute.
I do have a question about chalk paint. No one has ever talked about how it holds up over time. I have only used it to paint an old window that will become a jewelry holder. I do have a vanity and dresser that I would like to paint but I am afraid of it easily scratching and staining. Please talk about the wearability. I couldn’t think of a better word. 🙂
Thanks so much.
Great question, Kathie! I’ll cover it today.
🙂

I love your color choices and I love chalk paint! I am working on two things right now…why do I always have more than one thing going! Love your blog!
Debbie
Thanks so much Debbie!!! That sounds like me…6 pieces of furniture currently in progress right now! 😀
shaunna
I love the results! And you did great fixing the top! 🙂 Perfecto! 😀 As always!!!!
I wanted to let you know, I am having a Chalk Paint Giveaway (2 cans)…Stop by and check it out…And I have a few finished projects…a slipcover with ribbon ties down the backs, a chalkboard I revamped and a new piece of furniture that orig. was $2300 that I snagged for $200…and the story about trying to get it home! lol 😀
Sounds fun! Okay, I’ll come check them out!!

Hi Shaunna! First of all let me say…I am a HUGE fan of Perfectly Imperfect! Your blog is one of my greatest “guilty pleasures.” I left the following comment when you posted the blog about the little white french table for Ava. Maybe you’ll answer my question in your blog on chalk paint today. Which I am sitting on pins and needles with anticipation, to pop up on your blog!! I ordered one can-o-miracle…which I am now calling “can-o-magic” for the 5 pieces of french furniture that I found on Craigslist. I have finished the top and drawer fronts on the chest-of-drawers so far. I am in LOVE!! I will never color with another paint again… Just wondering if I should go ahead and order another can? I don’t want to get on a roll painting and run out. Happy “coloring” to you!! (Here is the previous post)…
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU…for posting this!! I recently purchased an entire bedroom set of the same French Provencial furniture for my daughter. It has been staring at me every. single. day. for the past few months! I am semi in love with it (had it when I was a little girl). Since you first posted about the can-o-miracle chalk paint, I have been debating on biting the proverbial “bullet” and getting my hands on the stuff. I have been searching and praying like a mad woman for someone to post their experience painting over the laminate top on these pieces. Well…I am SOLD! My only concern…how many cans should I buy? I have 5 pieces to paint…how many cans-o-miracle should I order?
It’s just adorable!
Love it! It’s so cute. I’ve got to give that chalk paint a try.
Hope you are doing well! 🙂
I’m still trying to make my way out of moving boxes! ugh.
Very strange! I just found your website and it turns out I painted the exact same table (actually tables, I have two and they are our nightstands) in almost exactly the same color just last weekend. What a coincidence… I didn’t do the pretty top; it’s all one color, but maybe I should revisit that.
I have that very same table. It was my grandmothers night table. I recieved it last year when she passed. I love it even though it has seen better days. I have now found just the right thing to bring it back to its former glory. Can’t wait to order and get in my chalk paint.
I adore how this entire piece. Could you describe what you mean by “watering down the paint” and “washing” the top?
thanks,
Sasha
Hey Sasha! To white (or lime)wash, you simply dilute the paint with a 50/50 ratio of water to paint. It will be really thin….you simply brush it on and wipe it in with a rag, very much like using a stain.
Hope that helps!
🙂

Hi Shaunna,
I love the original hardware on that piece. I’ve seen similar hardware on other furniture pieces across the internet, and I’m in love. But I can’t find anything similar at my local hardware stores, and I’m not even sure what those pieces are called so I can search for them online! Do you have any idea if they have a specific name?
Also, I LOVED your Creating Your Masterpiece ebook. Any chance you’d do a new book or update that one with chalk paint info?
Thanks,
Abby
Hi!
This is beautiful work. I am new to this DIY and was wondering what it means to “wash” the top? I love the look – but don’t quite know how to achieve.
Thanks for your inspiration and advice!
