The Painted Door Reveal

Back in December I shared visions of painted doors dancing in my head.
The splash of color was headed for that laundry room door, the perfect place for a pop of color (matt’s fav home decor slang ;-) .
And when I found this,

inspiration for color and treatment struck.
If you follow me on Twitter, you know that I ripped that door down by myself one afternoon and went to town.

And here she is, in all her “pop of color” glory.

The color is a deep aqua/turquoise….Valspar’s Alpine Valley.

I dry brushed it on so it would have the beauty of imperfection and wear.  I’m still on the lookout for a salvaged/unique door knob, as nothing has totally suited me just yet.
I’m hoping to remedy that this week.
:-)

While shooting the door, I realized I hadn’t really shown you my antique shopping basket.  I have a few of these now, and I love this one hanging above the laundry door in the kitchen.  It’s usually filled with pretty linens, chalkboard tags, and other random trinkets.

I’m also pretty mad about the way the door color looks against the Family Rules Art.

I also sprayed the hinges with Valspar’s Silver Metallic.
Shame I didn’t paint the screws.

I know I’m going to fall in love with this on a whole new level once the room is painted a soft white.  That color will ground things and keep it interesting.  I’m also thinking of painting the pantry door that sits beside this one…we’ll see.
For now, though, I’m enjoying the change and the bit of personality it brings to the room.
Because personality is one thing a home shouldn’t lack.
:-)
On a personal note, I’ll be in and out this week, popping in from Blissdom to say hey, but you may not see me everyday.
On a business note, ad spots for the blog are officially “Buy 2 months, get the 3rd month FREE!”  If you’ve already sponsored one month (like January), you’ve got one month under your belt.
I’m excited to introduce you to some of our other new sponsors in the next couple of weeks….who doesn’t love another great giveaway?  My goal is always to bring you some unique places to visit and shop….
I heart you sponsors!!!
You make it possible for me to throw myself into this here ol’ blog…..
and I LOVE YOU for it!
Have a great Monday, y’all!

The door is absolutely amazing! I love the color and how it changes to whole feel of the room. I bought some light blue/turquoise paint months ago to paint our doors and have never found the courage to do so. Right now they are white and so boring. I'm feeling a bit inspired now! Thanks!

  33. Jo - To a Pretty Life February 1, 2011 at 10:14 pm #

Your aqua door is gorgeous. I'm thinking of painting some doors in my house various shades of aqua and olive. It's three doors pretty much side-by-side, so I didn't want to make them all the same colour. Thanks for sharing yours!

  34. Denise Cosgrove March 1, 2011 at 8:44 pm #

You are amazing! I love the color of the door, the wire basket hanging above, and the personality of the space. It rocks!

  35. Sheena Hendriksen July 10, 2011 at 9:16 am #

I absolutley LOVE this door!!! Im wondering if you know the cute color you have on your walls. I love that it looks in between tan and gray. It would be great if you could let me know. Thanks

  36. megan July 25, 2011 at 10:16 am #

I love love love the hinges, how did you get them to look so perfect – a few years ago I sprayed the knobs and hinges for our powder room and they looked awful! Plus, they started to peel the minute they were dry. I think a tute on spray painting metal is a new requirement! Love!

  37. Christina October 18, 2011 at 6:20 pm #

love it! Did you paint the other side of the door?

  38. Darla Baerg October 20, 2011 at 8:28 am #

Love it! I know this is a stupid question, but what does “dry brushed” mean?

    • perfectlyimperfect October 20, 2011 at 9:30 pm #

Hey Darla! It simply means you dip your brush in just a little bit of paint, squeeze out the excess with a cloth until your brush is “dry” and brush it on! Hope that helps! If you search for dry brushing vs. whitewashing on the blog you should find some related posts. Good luck! :-)

    Shaunna,

I just finished painting a piece of furniture with anne sloan paint that I got from you last month. I love it!! I am now trying to find hinges and it is impossible to match these old hinges. I was thinking after seeing this post of spray painting the old ones. How does that work? Will it cause the hinge to be stuck when it dries? I saw that you did it on your hinges above, doesn’t it make them stick together? I would love any advice you have on how to spray paint the hinges. Have a wonderful holiday!!
