One of the most rewarding parts of blogging is meeting new people. People who do the same things you do. Love the same things you love. Work the same way you work.
Marian, a.k.a. Miss Mustard Seed, and I were fast friends after meeting, and we’ve since discovered that we’re basically the same person. One of us in the South, one in the North. Not only do I love her, I respect her work ethic, her talent, her vision, and her brand.
A couple of years ago, we started talking about collaborating on creating a line together. Many, many conversations, and even one snowed-in trip later, we decided to start small.
To begin centered around the thing we’re known for in the blogging community, the thing we love.
With one brush…
Here’s a video Marian and Kristie made for us…
After some back and forth with our manufacturer, we tried different handles, different bristles, painted and painted. We both love a good, reliable 2 inch angled brush. And we recognized a gap in the market for a great smooth finish sash brush that was as comfortable in your hand as it was on the eyes.
And it’s finally here.
all photos & video courtesy of Miss Mustard Seed
From Marian’s post today….
“We wanted synthetic bristles, for a smooth finish and so it would hold its shape well. The bristles are also tapered, so there is better contact with the surface. They’re shaped perfectly for cutting in and getting a nice, clean edge.
The handle is natural wood in a shape that allows you to wrap your hand around the base of the brush…just how Shaunna and I both hold our brushes. I’ve found holding a brush this way minimizes cramping when I’m on a painting marathon.”
You can buy your new brush HERE in our online store, but we are also both giving brushes away to our readers today!
I’m giving away 10 brushes to y’all, so just leave me a comment letting me know what you’re dying to paint!
Also, if you have a wholesale inquiry on the Parsons West brush, email us at orders@perfectlyimperfectblog.com.
Happy painting, folks!
HI Shaunna & Marion, I just recently ordered paint from Miss Mustard Seed ( on amazon), along with the wax & book, etc!…..I had never used milk paint before, but after watching one u-tube video after another I decided to give it a try!…..& may I say Marion’s videos were so helpful! 🙂
Anyway, I chose “typewriter” to paint my very dated guest bathroom cabinet!…Two coats, sanding, & waxing & I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!…..It turned out looking like a vintage piece I had made into a cabinet, not a dated standard big box cabinet that I had!…I am so impressed & am now trying to decide what will be my next piece!…..:)
I am so happy the two of you have come together with this new venture!…..I would ADORE one of your brushes!…..but if I am not lucky enough to win won, I will certainly purchase one! 🙂
Good Luck to you both!…..Love your show Shaunna & love your paint Marion!…..Your girls after my own heart!……Your friend, & fellow painter….Heidi XO

Congrats you two!! I’m dying to paint our end tables in the living room… trying to get rid of all the brown in my house! Cheers!!!!
I’ve been wanting to dive in and try the chalk paint phenomenon. If I only had a good paintbrush…….
I agree that a good brush is a necessity! The 2 in sash brush is also my favorite. I’m building living room furniture and it is all going to need painting.
How exciting! Congrats to both of you. 🙂 I need to get my coffee table painted.
Having bought my daughter’s fixer upper after her divorce, we have to paint EVERY WALL! (Those of you who think that chocolate or deep eggplant paint is just the ticket, think about the 2-3 coats of paint with primer required to cover them to ensure resale.) As you can see, we could use a really great brush. And an extra set of hands but a great brush will make it much easier, for sure!
I would paint my dining room set which I have been thinking about doing for awhile but I know it will take HOURS. I need a brush like yours that is comfortable to work with on a lengthy project. Good luck with your new venture!
Oh man it looks awesome! I’m getting ready for my 3&4th vintage market ever this fall so I have endless projects that need to be painted! Including a couple chairs, side tables and dressers! I would love to try this brush!
This summer, I found a new love for finding old furniture and refinishing it. So far, I have refinished a buffet table and a kitchen table and chairs…great finds from OfferUp, a local antique shop, and the good ole curbside…a neighbor was moving and put antique chairs out to the trash! Score!!! My girlfriend just gave me a beautiful side table and I’m ready to step outside my comfort zone and chalk paint it blue!!! 😄
I’ve got two benches at the kitchen table that I’ve waffled on for years about painting the lower portions and leaving the tops as raw wood. Or maybe the living room bookshelf. I’m so proud for y’all!

My bedroom is yaller, not yellow. As yellow gets older sometimes it turns into yaller. I’m the trim and cut in person. So I appreciate the design of the brush.
Looking forward to more from you.
I can’t wait to paint my bookshelf.

I can just feel that brush in my hand, through your gorgeous pictures. You ladies always inspire me, and I can’t wait to see what is next!
Too many pieces..small tables, dressers, buffet, China cabinets to frames, etc. I have 400 Sq ft storage unit of furniture to paint..OH MY!! . I started my collection last year and it just kept growing…I opened a booth in an antique store..just love my paint therapy. ; )
I’m dying to paint my grandma’s big old black dresser a shabby creamy white. It’s the dresser with the top drawer she allowed me to open to get the deck of playing cards for our endless games of solitaire. She also kept her flowery hankies in that drawer along with a little sachet or two of Avon perfumes. I can still open that drawer and smell those perfumes 40 years later.
Congrats Cheryl!!

Kitchen cabinets
This brush is beautiful! I would love, love, love to hold one and try it out. I’ve got dining chairs (beautiful, tall-back antique ones) that need refinishing. Dining chairs aren’t my favorite things to refinish, but this brush would be the thing to make it a fun job!

How exciting! Y’all are both so talented that I am sure this brush is amazing 🙂 I have an old coffee table that I am going to turn into a tufted ottoman. A new brush would come in very handy!
My kitchen table needs a good paint job! While raising children, the table was used for everthing, from crafting, to homework, to actually eating a meal! I would love to be able to try out this brush to give my table a beautiful finish!
My husband and I just bought a house, and I am slowly but surely turning it into a home that reflects our family. There’s a whole lot of painting that still needs to be done…excited to try out your new brush!
I’m always in need of a paint brush. I’ve got an Ikea dresser to paint and embellish. I’d love to give this one a try!
Great timing!!! My husband just built a table & now he expects me to stain & paint it, go figure!! Sooo, I would love to use this brush on His table. I’m sure they would help me make it GREAT!!! LOL!!!!
Two words…dream team! 🙂 I recently met and had the pleasure of watching Marion work when she came to Wisconsin. Together, I have faith you will make the world a much prettier place! Would love to try your new creation, thanks for the opportunity!
OOOOOO! I have a cradle that I am redoing for my granddaughter, and some stacking tables. I’ve used a Purdy brush for years, but this Parsons West brush looks like it would fit perfectly in my hand!
Thank you for the opportunity to win.

I have several rooms to paint and this brush would be ideal for cutting in around the woodwork! I also have an antique desk I”d love to paint. Thanks for the great giveaway!
Hi, my husband and I have an 1849 partial log home that we are renovating and painting is definitly on our to-do list. We love MMS milk paint and are dying to use it and your wonderful new brush on our kitchen floor. Thank you for this opportunity!
After 10 years of renting we are moving into our new house we just built! There are quite a few pieces of furniture I am going to redo. Would love to try this brush! I have yet to find one I really love. Congrats to you two-I love both of your styles!
My youngest daughter just left home after finishing college and I am finally redoing my formal living room for adults, haha! With little budget, since college was expensive, I am going to try my hand at redoing some older pieces I have. This is new to me, but I am ready! I would love to try this brush! Thank you for the opportunity.
I really want to paint an vintage table that I was given by my parents that was owned by my aunt. It’s been in the family for a long time but I think it’s time to give it new life with a good coat of paint and new stain!
YAY!! Can’t wait to try out your brushes. I’m redoing our master bathroom. Going to be painting our walls and our cabinets :D.
We are moving soon and will be painting rooms, furniture, trim, doors, kids-okay, just kidding…but, we have a lot of work to do!
I’ve already bought 2 of these brushes on Marion’s site and am so looking forward to receiving them! I’ll be painting an old trunk this weekend, but there’s always a next project right behind that. It’s my “therapy”!
I’m ready to start painting and just love a good brush! I just picked up a dresser yesterday from the curb to transform into my tv console with a little paint! That’s just the beginning…my mom lived with me for 8 years in an addition we put in, but last year we lost her in June. I want to change the room completely, making it our mast retreat as it’s just too hard walking in their daily and still seeing my mom in there.
I sooo love this contest….EEEK!!!😊 I have a kitchen table, china cabinet, and buffet that are screaming to be made over!
Oh boy, I have an entire outbuilding full of great antiques that I just scored at a storage unit sale. My favorite piece that is awaiting some paint love is a gorgeous empire style antique buffet…My old brush has worn thin I’m afraid and I would love to test drive your new brush. Thanks and hugs to you from North Carolina!
Donna
I have two tall cabinets that match my mother-in-law’s Hoosier cabinet. She antiqued them beautifully years ago and I’m ready to add them to my kitchen/hearth room area but they need a make-over for that. And I need a new project!! I hope this brush helps me honor her creativity and great work on them as they enter their next iteration and generation in my home.
The furniture in my daughter’s room – so she could love having grandma’s “old junk” as much as I do!!
I have quite a few projects waiting on me….a pile of chairs, a bed, a complete bed room set, and two tables. A few months ago I started noticing arthritis in two fingers on my right hand and would love to find a brush that is comfortable to use!
Kitchen cabinets for sure. I need a great brush for that project and this one sounds perfect.
I’m dying to paint my sister’s floor, (Probably not with the 2″ brush!). It’s such a big job, we’ve both been putting it off. I get a cramp every time I paint – maybe this is the answer –
LOVE the new brushes! I am dying to paint this dresser I got from a garage sale to put in my boys’ new big kid bedroom.
Have a farm table base to do, and think this might just be the ticket to get into the carved details, without being overloaded with paint. Congrats on the collaboration! Two of my favorites. 😊
Oh which piece to start with? Farm table I think. Then a dresser. This looks like a good brush, with a good grip in that handle. Can’t wait till they’re available.
I have many projects that I’d love to try this new brush on. A secret desk is the one up!! Would love to try your brush!

Love the brush. I would love to paint my kitchen cabinets.
I’m wanting–with a bit of help!! To paint my front door. I know exactly the color….plus without help I can paint a small bookcase for our under window space. I’m truly hoping this brush works well as I’ve been using Purdy but for some reason I hesitate to use it for my “make over” projects! Now I’ll have that brush just for me!! And if I win? I’m sharing with my sis for I ordered one for me from your site just now.
I would paint an armoire I purchased at a garage sale. It is eventually going to be gorgeous! I would enjoy painting it so much more with this awesome brush!!
I have a small drop leaf table that is ready to paint. I bought it at a yard sale for $8 and it’s asking for paint w/ a really good brush!!
Hi Shauna! I’m so excited about this new brush, I’ve been painting a lot this summer and kept thinking, I need an angled brush to cut this in. Everything I’ve painted this summer has been for other people, but I have a set of French provincialHenrendon nightstands in our neglected master bedroom that are crying out to be painted. Lots of two color detailing that I would love to try this brush out on! Thanks for offering a chance to win one!
I have several things that need painting but the first would be the dresser that I first painted when expecting my now 29 year old son. It’s way overdue for a makeover
Dying to try it! So proud of you two!!!!

Let’s see… I have a chest of drawers, farm house table, armoire, hutch and a storage bench for starters… Then there’s the stack of frames, a writing desk and oh another chest of drawers! And that’s just getting started!!!!
Hi Shauna, I have a dresser in the master that is going to be painted and placed under a framed, wall mounted TV, a kitchen table and a vanity in my teen’s room. One of the things that has been holding me back is affording the investment a good brush would be. I know it makes a difference but is hard to justify. This would be a huge blessing!!
Congrats Joy!!
You are the winner!! Email us at orders@perfectlyimperfectblog.com with your shipping info and we will get that brush sent out to you. Thanks for all your support!! 🙂

I painted an old pine cubby my hubby made years ago in MMS Lucketts green.
I am hooked and an wanting to try flow blue or artissimo on an old pine dresser.
I am dying to paint this old redwood potting bench that my dad made me over 15 years ago. It has been outside all this time and aged so perfectly. Now I wanna paint in pretty and bring it inside!
So many projects to do, but I’m thinking about starting with the master bath walls and cabinets.
EVERYTHING !!!!!!!!! I absolutely love to re- do furniture. I am a “frequent flyer” at your store re-stocking all my paint. Can’t wait to try the brush.
How amazing! Two of my favorite bloggers working together on a product I can use at home! I would love to use this new brush to paint a French Provincial table and chairs that I’m finally going to get brave enough to buy! It’s the style I’ve always wanted and I would paint it a soft white. If I chicken out on the purchase though, I have a great vanity in my basement primed and ready for a coat of paint. Hope I’m using a Parsons West brush on it!
I have a list a mile long…chairs, bed, chest of drawers, and on and on!
Well, aside from wanting to paint everything , I would definitely tackle the large, unfinished cabinet in my foyer,
Congrats on the new line.
I brake hard for those roadside freebies, and recently picked up a cool antique wooden chair that has no upholstery and was in pieces. Still, it has great lines, so it was calling for me to take it home. First some repair work, then some MMS milk paint (I’m thinking typewriter), then grain sacks and nail head trim to finish it. I have the perfect little corner for it, and would love a perfect brush for the project! Thanks for a chance to win one…and all the great inspiration and tutorials!
For over a year, a worn out, tired, damaged wardrobe has been sitting in my workshop. I am in the workshop daily; painting, sanding, repairing, prepping and waxing smaller, younger easier pieces than this sweet girl. I named her Georgia and she keeps me company. I promise her she will be next. The prep work needed will be time consuming and I am always in a rush to get another piece out the door. If I win the paintbrush, I will give sweet Georgia the attention she deserves.
my husband and I will be updating our kitchen, master bedroom and bath this fall. So I have lots of walls and a couple pieces of furniture that will be going in those spaces. My daughter just completed graduate school and landed her first adult job this past week and will be house hunting soon so she has a long list of furniture pieces she needs help with too. I found out the hard way many years ago that you have to have the right brush to get a great paint finish. So glad to hear that you and Marian are working together. The love both your styles.
I so want to paint Ethan Allen furniture given to me by my parents in 1954. I’m thrilled that I can actually paint the Heirloom nutmeg pieces with Formica tops . And of course I have to paint the canopy bed. And the Ethan Allen Hitchcock vanity, stool and mirror.
Thanks for the wonderful products, tutorials, and encouragement!
What don’t I want to paint? I am always painting something! I have a table, book cases and many other little items on my painting to do list! I’d love to give your new brush a try!!!
Would love to give this brush a try! I’m getting ready to paint my kitchen cabinets. Thanks for the chance to win one! 🙂
I was just given permission (my children & I live in my parents’ home) to paint the doors & trim in our space. I’m so excited, but dreading the cramped hand & aching wrist/elbow, this brush looks lighter and fit to be held with smaller hands. It sure is fun to see the two of you working together – just so much goodness :-).
Very excited for you both on your new adventure! Congratulations! I really do have so much painting to do. Keep putting it off. Master bedroom, livingroom and kitchen. As well as a couple of small pieces of furniture.
Hey Shaunna, Jennifer O. and I used to work together and she turned me on to your store. I visited a while back and you were doing a floor change, had closed the shop, but let me in anyway! So sweet.
I’ve got a flea market booth at Eastbrook in Montgomery so am always throwing down some paint on an unsuspecting piece of reclaimed treasure – often scored from the curb. I’d love to have your brush to UP my game! Congratulations and can’t wait for Sweet House Alabama to start airing.
Ladies, good luck with the new line Parsons West!! A wonderful brush and great paint and I am ready to tackle the projects stacking up in my garage. Would love wonderful new brushes to try with that Tricycle Red paint that I just ordered.
Stay well!
I’ve been trying to work up the nerve to repaint my teenage daughter’s bedroom suite. I did it several years ago when she was 5, now at almost 15 she needs a more mature look. I’ve got everything stripped, now to paint!
I have this antique secretary in my garage with some ” slight problems” which has a “paint me” sign on it. This used to be in my office but, unfortunately, I had some water intrusion, and the secretary received the brunt of the damage. I have been meaning to work on this piece for a while, and now I have a great reason ….. new brushes !
What would I paint? The real question what I wouldn’t paint…lol. I’ve got a garage full of furniture just waiting to be recreated.
I just ordered this brush yesterday but you can never have too many ‘nice’ brushes. I would love to paint my kitchen table and chairs (not to mention the kitchen cabinets but I haven’t gotten the nerve up yet to tackle that job).
So excite to read about your new business with Marion. I read both of your blogs and am a huge fan. I would use the brush to paint my oak kitchen table.
Opps, should spell check. I am so excited, not so excite.
My favorite brush is a similar tapered brush I have had for years and is ready to be retired. I am so excited to see your new brush. Would love to win one!
What wouldn’t I paint with it!? I just bought a very tired looking french chair, so I think I would start with that, but there are so many ideas in my head right now. The chair would just be the first of many items to be given a makeover.
You two make the PERFECT combo!! Love all you both do! I can not wait to see what all you girls bring us. I would LOVE to win a brush. I’ve been dying to paint a beautiful buffet that was my grandmothers.
I absolutely love that y’all have collaborated on this! I so respect the both of you and have enjoyed watching your businesses grow over the years. Can’t wait to try the brush on furniture and anything else we are working on. Congratulations!!
Soon, I’ll be chalk painting an old brass chandelier for my dining room. Right now I need a good brush like yours to finish a sideboard I’m chalkpainting.
I just bought Marian’s milk paint, hemp oil and white wax. Going to paint my pine armoire that has never been painted. Very nervous about it but excited too!
I’m dying to paint a pie safe.
I have a dresser I would like to paint & a new paint brush would help:)
A dresser that needs paint bad.
I would paint a table that I have in my kitchen first!
A dresser top of a dresser that belonged to my mother, then my son and now I have it. I’m going to put my quilting fabric in it
OMGoodness!! So exciting! I use an angle 2″ brush all day long doing kitchen cabinets and I feel like this is going to be my new go to brush!!! I can’t wait to get my hands on this!! Congrats to you both for this exciting adventure!!!
I’m just dying to paint my dining room table 🙂
I am dying to paint my dining room table and chairs! I would to have a fab new brush!
I have many projects. First up would be the yard sale desk in my tween’s room followed by the craigslist headboard I got last fall to update our master bedroom. Thanks for the chance to win!
I have just recently become obsessed with repainting old furniture. My next project is an entryway table that cries out “paint me!” every time I walk by!
YAY…so excited for y’all! You’re the perfect pair. We have so many projects that we have lined up to paint…a sideboard, chest of drawers, a chandy – well you get the idea. This list could go on and on! Thanks for the opportunity and congrats ladies!
Love it, this brush looks amazing! Painting is my favorite thing to do. I have volunteered to help a friend update & renew her buffet next so that awesome brush would be a great help.LOL Wishing you the best of luck on your new venture.
Way to go! I love both of you and all of the creative things you create. I’m hoping to paint my kitchen table with your new brush!

Trim, trim, and more trim!!
I am going to paint my ’70’s ugly bathroom vanity. I already have the walls done the color I want so all I need to do is find the right shade of paint to compliment the decor and time off from work.
While my youngest son is away at Ft Benning, Ga doing BCT and AIT, I am repainting his room and would LOVE to repaint his dresser, chest of drawers and entertainment center with a awesome new brush!!!! Help me welcome him back home with a newly painted fresh and cozy room!
The dark wood armoire in our bedroom seems like an overwhelming task. I love transforming furniture with paint. A wonderful new brush would be the perfect inspiration for getting the project underway!
I found this old table at a thrift store that will be perfect as my ‘new’ studio desk after painting – one leg needs to be repaired & re attached, and the veneer is peeling off the sides, but I just fell in love with the shape and look of it. Oh boy and all the door & window trim on our 2nd floor needs to be painted too!
Akk! I am a day late and a dollar short! I didn’t get to check my emails last night – busy watching ‘Descendants’ on Disney with the grandgirls. How lucky for ten people. Have a great weekend.
I am smitten. That is one sexy paintbrush lol! Seriously, the curve of the handle is awesome! The photos are great! I’ve got to have it….I am going to be painting lots of tight spots, corners, trim, doors and crown in my open kitchen/dining soon. Nothing’s a better friend than a great paintbrush you can count on. Thanks for your consideration. Have a great weekend you two.
Love to paint!!! Although since becoming a new grandmother 1 month ago all painting on hold!! But will get back to it soon since our inventory at our booth Southern Revival is looking slim!!
I have been painting furniture ( an old oak table and a campaign chest of drawers) and a good paint brush is a must. Next project is a mid century bar.
That brush looks amazing! Congratulations on your new venture. We are in the middle of purchasing our first home and I have a ton of painting to get done. I’m going to be refinishing all of our living room furniture along with an old oak office desk and an oak entertainment center. Whew, I’m tired just thinking of it!
i have a dark sofa table i’m dying to brighten up with a pale mint !
Thanks for creating what looks and sounds like a painting tool perfect for my projects! I have my eye on an old, Art-Deco buffet at a local thrift store, which benefits animals. The piece is very unloved–finish ruined (who cares?), icky hardware (no problem!), one leg chewed-on (Awww…who doesn’t love puppies!). But, as they say, it has good bones, the lines of it are very cool, and it keeps calling my name. Would get such a kick out of winning one of your 10 giveaway brushes to show this piece some tender affection and let it shine as the beautiful swan its designer had in mind at its creation.
What would I paint? Hmmm …… the avocado table I found for my foyer. Or, that bathroom cabinet. Or a new color for my coffee table. Too many projects, not enough time. But, an amazing brush would help me get motivated!
I have discovered that I am falling in love with vibrant color. I have an old stool that is fairly ornate with glass ball feet that I want to paint bright red, can’t wait to get started!
The brush is beautiful!! I love that you two have collaborated on a collection together. How nice!! Anyway, I am on sort of painting marathon right now. We are getting ready to list the house for sale and I am painting ceilings, crown molding, base molding, stair risers, the fireplace, one whole bedroom and a couple pieces of furniture. I sure could use a nice brush that fits well in my hands and that will save me a few hand cramps.
Beautiful brush. It’ll be one of those brushes in years to come that is found in an antique shop that someone picks up and says “wow, this must have painted a lot of things and it still looks great”. Ya know when you find a great brush and think of all the things it painted.Well at least that’s how I would think.
I’m dying to paint my living room. Thanks for the giveaway! 🙂
What a beautiful brush! I’d love to use it to paint my Bookshelf.
I have a collection of pieces waiting to be painted. I love painting “things”, can’t stand paintng walls. 🙂
