The last time I showed you our kitchen, this is where things stood…
Things have moved along mostly well, with a couple of snags here and there. The cabinets were installed early last week, and we were able to start filling some of them.
Hello blissful organizing excitement.
And now, there are counters…
And I am in love with them.
And I completely recognize these ingredients have nothing to do with one another and I don’t care one bit. I couldn’t wait to throw some pretty jars and overripe berries on the counters to see how they photographed.
Confession: did you know that while I love to cook Southern/any food and bake, that I never posted a recipe here because I the counters looked psychodelic on screen??
So maybe we have recipes in our future here on the ole blog. We’ll see.
It was also fun to play around with my camera and the depth of field & exposure…just a fun 15 minute photo shoot in general.
We went with a honed island for a bit more durability, but went with polished marble (Bianca Gioia) all along the side cabinetry. I’m loving them so far.
And so are the little people…
It’s coming along now. We have a fully functioning kitchen, with that big farmhouse sink working, and the stove is hooked up. Take that fast food.
We should have the cabinets completely finished next week, so I’ll snap some pictures of that for you when the time comes. We have backsplash to install, so this is still an ongoing makeover. I can see the finish line, though.
Be on the lookout for some shop specials coming your way for the 4th–have an amazing day, friends!
That is one big sink!! It all looks nice and bright. I would be afraid of white as it shows the dirt and dirty finger prints!! For good recipes, try this site:

It’s looking beautiful!
Thank you, Mrs. Nancy!

It’s beautiful! Congrats on the (almost) completed re-do!!
hi, we are in the midst of a renovation as well. We are doing white cabinets with a granite-esque marble. My husband talked me out of it because we have two young kids. What do you think? We are also doing a farmhouse sink. What faucet did you choose please? He wants a more industrial looking one and I am leaning towards a faucet that goes with the look of the farmhouse sink. I would love to hear your thoughts.
Hey Amanda! Well, I think you have to weigh in that marble is softer than other natural stones. BUT…our stone guy says that it’s truly no different than quartz, etc. You can sit a hot pan on it, and it’ll be fine..you just don’t leave the hot pan on it. And you wouldn’t want to cut directly on the counter because it could scratch, but this didn’t matter to me since I couldn’t cut on my formica counters anyway. We put a Dupont 15 year sealant on the polished counters. This protects from staining but doesn’t protect from etching. Something acidic can remove the polished finish making that little spot look more honed (matte). That is why we honed the island. It’s a little more durable meaning it won’t etch over time. Marble counters can also be re-polished or chemically honed over time if you change your mind or need a spot fixed.
Basically, at the end of the day, I couldn’t cut on or leave citrus on my laminate counters, so I’m not worried about it with the marble. And, it’s just what I wanted. I’ve done my research and I feel comfortable, but I’m also not Type A about things like stains and scratches. There are beautifully aged marble counters all over Europe so I figured it’s just not a big deal. 🙂
Hope this helps!

Love it. Love. It.
Bless you and all your endeavors in this beautiful space.
Since someone else linked to a recipe site – I’ll tell you, Summer Harms has great healthy recipes. She’s a Christian and has good challenging posts, too.
I love your countertops! I’m planning to put Carrara in my new kitchen and I can’t wait to start using them. They just get more and more beautiful as they age.
