Me again!
Well, folks, I’ve put it off as long as I possibly can.
As of now, our feeds will be truncated, meaning you guys that follow us in a reader or via email will have to click over to our blog to read the entire post.
Here’s the thing. As I’m sure you’ve read on many other blogs, there are so many sites that steal original content claiming it as their own. We do work hard around here to keep this place a fun spot to visit & hopefully, it inspires you every now and then. If other sites are claiming our content as their own, we have to do all we can to protect our content and our work.
Please know that you are helping us even in doing so. Every time you visit our blog, you encourage us to work harder, write more, paint more, build more. You literally support this crazy little family. You coming to visit is not lost on us….we appreciate you more than you know.
Matt and I (and rugrats) hope you understand our decision and realize the intent behind it. We hope you’ll click over to visit us everyday to see what we’ve been up to.
You guys are the BEST readers in the blogosphere, and we’re so thankful to have you!
Do what you gotta do Girl! You ARE my favorite blog and I visit every day. You really do inspire me. Thanks for your tutorials and play-by-play on how you do what you do. How dare people steal your “stuff”. Blessings to you and your sweet, little family!
I still don’t understand why everyone is doing this. I wish someone could show me an example of stolen info, but i do understand you have to do what you feel is right. The main reason why I don’t like to have to click over is that certain pages take so long to load. For some reason yours is one of them, as well as Miss mustard Seed.
I can’t figure out why. Other websites don’t take as long. I do love your webite and will likely continue to follow, but possibly won’t be able to check each post.
Thanks for letting us know and may God bless the work of your hands and keep you (and your work) protected. 😉
Blessings,
Michelle
Hey Michelle! Well, the sites literally take a full post that a computer scrapes from feeds…and plug it straight into their own blog/site. There’s no link or credit given…it just seems like said site wrote that post/tutorial/project. I know our site has been slower this year because of the addition of our shop page. We are working on that now, actually–thank you for your understanding and I hope to speed up the site!!
🙂
shaunna
Thanks, Shaunna, thanks for your response. yes, speeding up the page will help greatly. Also, informative titles are great too. Thanks for caring about your readers. You are a blessing.
You’re smart to do it. Good for you. Lisa~
I understand that you need to protect yourself. However, as a reader who reads through a reader (Google reader to be specific) I have one simple request. Often times the title alone on a post does not catch me enough to make me want to click over. Pictures do, though. Is there anyway to use a teaser photo (obviously watermarked) in your truncated post that would help me weed through to the posts that I want to look at? I have 50+ blogs in my feed and I don’t want to miss out on yours!
Hmmm, Renee, I am not sure, but I’ll sure check into it!
🙂
shaunna
I agree with you Rene and your suggestion. I’m in the same boat as you…
Eh, what is a little click through?
I find that my favorites are worth the effort!
Blah! I hate that people are stealing content and making it difficult to read my favorite blogs. I live overseas with ridiculously slow internet. While my reader loads quickly, websites do not. Sigh. I will click over when I can! Wishing you all the best…
Good for you! I hate seeing one of my favorite blogs content stolen.
i have seen many many blogs doing this recently…and I’m curious…would you consider putting the names of other sites out into blogland so that readers would know not to read them? Also…can i assume that since I’m not seeing repeat posts (except on link parties) that I’m reading original content?
I will still be clicking in for sure!! I totally understand!
Blah! I really hate that you all have to do this. I read through emails during quick breaks I have at work or when I’m out and on my phone. The site takes too long to load and it’s a pain to click over everytime I want to read. Will visit when I can! Best of luck!
hey girl:)….boy
we did ours a little while back and i am teeny tiny compared to you. hang in there. i can see all sides but you do have to protect yourselves. it is a business after all. it would be a good idea if they could put a picture in there though..maybe they will be able to soon?
oh..your post the other day with your little ones?
to die for! i told my daughter that they are like shaunna mini me’s.
I am all over big bows and boots..
hugs
xo
I too have been truncating the posts on my blog…although I rather doubt any of my blog posts have been worthy enough for theft. Hee hee!
But just to let you know, I won’t mind clicking over to your full blog from my reader 😉 Your content is worth it!
I’ll click over to read your blog! I’m a commited follower and if I have to drive to Troy to find out what’s going on, I will!
Thanks for all the inspiration you give to us all! Hugs from Montgomery!!!
I absolutely understand why you have to do this but I wish you didn’t! 🙁 A few other sites I follow have done the same. One specifically seem to have figured out how to show the start of the along with a photo and from there you need to click on the {read more}. Hoping that will work for you too!
Seeing how you are one of the two or three blogs that I faithfully read, I completely understand you doing what you need to protect your work. I will literally keep a ridiculous number of emails in my box and delete the “less important ones” to keep you visible to read when I finally get the chance! It’s worth it every time too!
By all means, protect your work! As a journalist, I’d be outraged to have someone claim my work as their own. Your creativity is your talent, and while some of us may copy your ideas in our homes (my version of your family room storage cabinet is my favorite piece in our bedroom), it’s not right for someone else to take credit. It’s worth the time to get to your site!
I’m about to ask a silly question – Is this the blog we have to click through to read or is it somewhere else? With the original post being on this page I’m not sure. This is one of the blogs I check everyday and I don’t want to miss anything!
Do whatever it takes to protect your creativity and your hard work. I’m with you all the way and going to follow you regardless. Heart this blog! heather x
It’s funny… I always click over to read blogs on their site.. I hate reading in a reader. You just don’t get the full experience.
You have to protect yourself and your work. I truncated a long time ago for this very same reason and it didn’t hurt my stats at all.
Just keep doing great work and we’ll keep coming back!
