1. I’m thinking of buying a Keurig.
2. Is it worth it? Or just a fancier way to have a cup of coffee?
3. I ran out of coffee this morning.
4. Hot tea is just not the same.
5. “The best part of waking up…”
6. Is not a cup of decaf Earl Grey.
7. Speaking of gray, I think I’ve finally chosen a shade for Ava’s room.
8. Her funiture is moved out, and we’re ready to paint and rip up the nasty carpet.
9. Did I mention we have 2 inside, leaky puppies??
10. I know, it grosses me out, too.
11. Matt and I are in a battle over the wood treatment we’re putting up. He wants it painted gray, walls white. I want white boards, gray walls.
12. Something tells me I might win the battle.
13. Muahahahaha
14. An old friend tagged me in a pic of Cruella De’Ville this week on Facebook.
15. I was almost offended at first.
16. I then remembered dressing up as Cruella for Halloween one year…wig and all.
17. Matt totally tagged along behind me dressed as a dalmation.
18. No, he never lived it down.
19. I felt splendidly wicked that evening.
20. Not in a creepy way, okay?
21. Homeschooling isn’t killing me, surprisingly.
22. Grayson read quite a lot today, and he said the noises I made (I mistakenly thought I was squealing) sounded, “so very strange, Mom.”
23. Ava stayed home today. Crazy runny nose.
24. She even did school with us, and that, surprisingly, didn’t kill me either.
25. Is a shame she stayed home on the day of no coffee, though.
You are right, tea is just not the same as coffee in the morning. It’s fine in the afternoon or evening, but not morning. If I loved coffee like you do (and me) I would not buy a Keurig. I would buy a nice coffee pot if you need one. The coffee things are expensive and they only make one cup. I make a pot every morning and it gets me through the day.
Love your musings today. Nice stream of conciousness and valid points too.
Thanks, Vicki! I love your comment–nice stream of consciousness. Sounds like you’re a writer!

1. It is better they fresh sliced bread. 2. My favorite is Hazelnut. 3. Tea? What’s this tea you speak of?? 🙂 4. I love my Keurig 🙂 (this is not a sponsored post 😉
LOL, Tracie! Good to know–I’m trying to decide. Thanks for your comment!

We love our Keurig! I bought reusable pods (Ekobrew) so we can add our own coffee. We no longer waste coffee and it is cheaper! You should definitely get one.
Ohhh I didn’t know there were reusable pods! That makes it so much more reasonable. Thanks for the info!
Buy the Kuerig! I just bought a new one yesterday and am sitting outside snuggling with my first cup of coffee in a week. I can already tell that today is going to be a great day!
And, thank you for your randomness! So good to know that I am not alone!
Funny. Love the idea for that Halloween costume.

You crack me up…and yes, I think you will win!! 🙂
Shawna,
I like the ease of preparing a fresh cup of coffee when I want to drink it, but did not like the expense of the Keurig. As a compromise I bought a stainless Hamilton Beach single serve coffee maker with a scoop that you use to scoop and brew. I love it! My coffee tastes great fresh and I have saved a TON of money which I then recycle into my house. LOL. Just my thoughts!
Check in with Heather at Stringtown Home blog..she did a post on that specific item /http://stringtownhome.blogspot.com She highly recommends it.

Keurig…BEST THING EVER. You wont regret it. Perfect cup of hot coffee in seconds,it doesnt get better than that.
We have had a Keurig, but now have a Nespresso (living in Spain for a bit). I liked my Keurig better than my $25 drip coffee maker, but I LOVE my Nespresso. We will totally get one when we get back…with a milk frother on the side (so easy, pour it in and stick on the lid). I would look into that, if I were you. The coffee is amazing. It doesn’t make tea or cider or whatever, just good espresso and Americanos. Oh and this am we only had one coffee pod left. I won it thanks to baby duty last night. Thank God.
You should get a Keurig. It is worth every penny and it makes life so blissful. I don’t think I could live without mine now. I used to think wow that is a waste but then when you look at how much you use it, it’s money well spent. I never go to star bucks or buy pricey cups of coffee because I can make better organic coffee at home. I also have the frother pitcher for lattes in the winter. A little pumpkin spice sprinkled over top and it is just heaven.
Get a cuisinart. I know of 3 Kurigs that broke. My neighbor swears getting a steeper is the best coffee.
I absolutely love my Breville coffee maker. It uses the K Cups. It is perfect for us. Kids can have hot chocolate, apple cider etc… And I can have coffee. I don’t drink a whole pot, so for me, I think it is more economical. I highly recommend checking out the Breville brand. I have had it 2 years now and it works fantastic! My favorite coffee in the K Cups is Wolf Gang Puck. You can find it at Bed Bath and Beyond.
yes, get a Kuerig! we have one and i love it. we also bought the reuseable Kcup holder and use ground coffee all the time. for sure worth the investment.
Funny. I usually just scroll through a post looking for pictures and don’t read much, but yours sucked me in. I usually win the battle too 🙂 Thanks for the laught!
The Keurig seems to work best for busy-bees on the go, for families who only have one coffee drinker (or hugely disparaging differences in flavor/caffeination preference) or for folks who make coffee multiple times in one day.
If it’s the convenience of a single cup and you don’t mind waiting for water to boil* and don’t want to spend the money, may I suggest doing a pour-over?

At our house we use a french press, because it’s cheap, we usually only have coffee in the am, husband likes to grind his own beans (teehee! but seriously it’s fresher.) and frankly they just look cool.
And that’s my two cents!!
*My water-boiling life changed completely the day I got an electric tea kettle.
Love your musings today as I, too, have been pondering a Keurig. I am the sole coffee drinker and my husband, the former coffee drinker, only had a 12-cup maker that just seems like too much. I feel like the Keurig mini-brew would be a better deal for me and will save time/money in the long run.
We’re looking to give the maker to a friend who is moving and scouring coupons to save up for the Keurig.
Good luck to you on your coffee maker hunt
We thought about the Keurig, but the coffee pods for it are SO expensive! We stuck with a regular pot. My husband’s breakroom in the hospital has one though, so we still buy packs of Keurig coffee pods every once in a while for him to take to work because it IS cheaper than buying coffee from the coffee shop all the time, but it’s more expensive than a regular home pot.
🙂 you’re comment stream is so endearing Shaunna. Love your honesty and style. Glad schooling is going well. I taught 2nd grade in a public school but am not confident I could teach my own children effectively! I fear I would be too frustrated at rotten behavior, laziness, or learning difficulties with my own kiddos! Kudos to you for giving it a try!
hey:)
I have a Keurig…it is cool.fast.easy for a one cupper
BUT
often I wish I had the old style back for the mornings when you and some girlfriends/family want to linger over coffee. We recently returned from a lake vacation with my family and that was our FAVORITE memory. A big pot of coffee and talking for two hours in the early mornings.
Have both…lol
I homeschooled my oldest three….loved it for the most part:) Good memories:)
LOVE your 25 things…happy happy weekend. Enjoy painting Ava’s room. I think you will win too…
xo
No, no, no, no! No Earl Grey in the morning, and decaf above all… The best part of waking up is a cup of strong dark breakfast tea! Did I get a little intense? Sorry! I hope you thought of buying coffee in the middle of your crazy day for tomorrow morning!
my husband is a coffee aficionado (I just drink whatever he makes) and he despises Keurigs. We have an Aeropress and he swears by it…it gives you more control, and I like that it cleans easy.
Also, Cruella De Ville is my HERO. I’ve been her for Halloween more than once. 😀 Everytime I go to the Disney store I search for stuff with her on it.
I got the Keurig as a gift and it is great for when I host workshops! I am a tea drinker and really terrible at making coffee so it works for me (and all my coffee loving friends). Love that people can have hot coco or tea or a variety of coffees with no waste. Need to try the re-useable pods.
We’ve had our Keurig for over three years and it’s still going strong! My husband and I love it. Yes, the k-cups can be expensive but luckily they have a reusable cup that you can fill with your own coffee. It’s called “my k-cup” (or something like that) and I believe is less than $20. The best thing about the Keurig is that we no longer have wasted (undrunk) coffee. Again, even though the initial cost is pricey (we have the platinum edition), we no longer have to worry about the glass carafe/pitchers breaking from traditional coffee pots. Don’t ask me how we break those things….but it’s happened…several times.
We, too have the holster that uses regular coffee……yes, the pods are ridiculously expensive. The only negative I have is that I now don’t have leftover to freeze for my grandson’s frappucino’s! We were usually wasting 2 or 3 cups every day. I say, “YES”…..go for it!
lol, I just heard a whole NPR story about Keurig, sadly nothing positive, very expensive for one cup of coffee, filling up the landfill with more plastic that ends up in the ocean as part of that plastic continent in the Pacific and the coffee doesn’t taste good.
I use a french press that I’ve had for years and love the ritual my husband and I share first thing when we get up and it taste delish, we love Lavazza coffee, yum.
PS One of the folks interviewed on NPR about the Keurig made a really interesting observation, in the age of me, me , me and of a lack on interaction with others we now have a coffee maker that is totally for the individual, no need to share or enjoy a cup with others. I thought that was very interesting 😉
I just bought a Mr. Coffee K-Cup (cheaper version) and an Ekobrew cup so that I can fill my own little coffee cup rather than creating loads of little plastic cup trash. I did get some green tea and hot cider for the rare times a guest want those things. I like a single cup coffee maker; I am the only coffee drinker in my house. And, since I have an hiatal hernia, one cup is about all I can tolerate without getting heartburn. Smart people might give up their coffee…
#2; yes, but yes.
#12; white wood, gray walls- I’m with you.
~Bliss~
So here’s the thing with us, we have both a Keurig and a great coffee pot. My husband and I don’t always get to have our coffee together in the morning so the Keurig is great for us, we each make a nice hot cup when we are ready. We use our regular pot on weekends and when we have company over. The pods can be expensive but we generally use only two a day and found we were wasting coffee when we use to make a pot every morning! I love it for tea in the afternoons and occasionally a hot chocolate too! 🙂
we do that same thing! Use the regular pot for company
Not sure about the keurig but coffee is a MUST!
I’m homeschooling my second grader for the first time this year and I’m terrified and thrilled at the same time. Glad to hear you are having a good experience, encouraging! We kick off on Monday so wish me luck!!

Buy a Keurig, it’s worth it. Buy your coffee in bulk at places like Costco, Sam’s or like I do, at Amazon. You can also use your regular coffee in the Keurig with special k-cup that holds regular coffee. I can’t wait for a pot of coffee to drip in the a.m., I’m so cranky, I can’t even stand myself! : )
Love my Keurig !!! I do enjoy brewing a huge pot of coffee for a group , if it’s necessary.. however a quick, and I do mean quick cup of delicious, warm ( any
flavor you like ) in about 30 seconds is soooo lovely.. and not just for me. I can
make a very fresh cup for a friend or My Darling in the same time.. and fresh
every single time.. just get a number and get in line.. every 30 seconds:)
* Be sure to get the cup so you can use your own fav brand of coffee- great savings
Also makes hot chocolate for the kiddies .
Best Christmas present we bought ourselves:)

It’s impossible to imagine someone as sweet as you are as Cruella! We LOVE our Keurig! We’ve had it for about 4 yrs. First appliance my hubby has ever commented on–he is quite fond of it. :-). Fabulous when our small group is here…some prefer strong, some decaf, some flavored. You can use ground coffee wit the reusable filter, too.
I love these posts! So random, yet so funny!! We don’t have a Keurig, because my husband & I can kill an entire pot in the morning with no problem! I think if we had a Keurig, we would spend a fortune on coffee!!
I am still laughing at the idea of you dress as Cruella & Matt as your dalmatian! You guys are too funny! Glad to hear that homeschooling is going well & hope little Ava’s nose gets better!!
Three words about a Keurig!
Oh My Gosh!
I L-O-V-E mine!
It’s the most incredible thought every morning that I’m going to have the best cup of coffee EVERYTIME!
Your problems not tea, it’s decaf earl grey! Try a good British black tea in the morning!!
I’m laughing most about Gray’s thoughts about your sounds! Love it. and you.
Shauna, we have a Kuerig and love it! My husband grabs 1 cup of coffe on the way out the door every morning; so no need to brew an entire pot. We use the refillable filter to save money. You do have to clean out the coffee grounds but it’s not difficult. We splurge on the K-cups when my dad comes to visit. He drinks coffee all throughout the day and he can make a cup any time he likes. (He liked it so much he went home an bought one)!
P.S. Yours is my FAVORITE blog! Thanks!
Love my Kuerig. Super expensive for us coffee drinkers, however. I love that my husband can have his dark strong coffee and I can have my mild breakfast blend. So we don’t need a second mortage whenever my coffee drinking college kids are home I put it up and get out our 12 cup pot. Oh! How I miss my Kuerig during those days.
I had a K-cup brewer, and it was nice to have as a second coffee pot, but I would not want it as my one and only. I drink too much coffee, and if you have guests – particularly overnight guests who will be sitting down to breakfast with you and your family – nobody wants to take a number to have their morning cup. I don’t really miss the K-cups since it quit on me, and a french press is lovely for a little afternoon cup (or two if I’m enjoying it with someone else.)
A morning without coffee, sounds very very dangerous. I had a Keurig at work, I didn’t love it. I just didn’t feel like it tasted right ever. But if I was the only coffee drinker in my house and I only drank one cup a day I could see doing it.
We love our Keurig. It’s fast, and super easy to use. There’s less clean up and the kids can make their own hot chocolate or tea. K-cups are expensive but you can catch them on sale or buy online. My husband and I alternate between K-cups and using our own coffee with the refillable filter along with the paper filters we found at Bed Bath & Beyond.
P.S. Love your blog!
