So, do you remember the time Shaunna was having unbelievable back pain while attending the awesome Haven conference and became violently ill? And then a few days later more experienced a few more unpleasantries that we won’t mention? Well, I was out of town for work last Thursday and Shaunna called me that morning and said she was hurting and feeling sick again. And that there was blood in places there shouldn’t be blood. So, The Lord himself imbued me with the thought, “what if all of these things are related?”
So, Shaunna went to the doctor, and he confirmed it. Drumroll please…kidney stones!
Two more trips to the doctor, four days, four sleepless nights later- we are sitting in the hospital, waiting on the incredible Dr. Massey to come whisk my sweet wife away into a medically induced nap, to surgically remove what Shaunna would describe as a “boulder” out of her bladder.
I believe she’s going to make it because, as I type, she’s not only laying here ready to go back for surgery, she’s also chatting with Layla (from The Lettered Cottage) about how to use Chalk Paint.
I’ll be back with an update soon. Unless, of course, Shaunna has me do something about this, first…
Matt 🙂
Bless her sweet heart! I’m so glad that the problem has been found. Praying that surgery goes well and recovery too. Tell her we love her!! 🙂
Oh Matt! We’ll be praying for Shaunna for sure. She was so ill at Haven, poor girl. You’re a great hubs for helping her get this post out, and yes, I think you might need to complete a mini hospital room makeover while there! LOL. (rest well Shaunna!!)
Keeping you in our thoughts and prayers for a quick recovery!
I had no idea you were having to have surgery…or that it was today! praying for you-so sorry!!!
Oh My! Matt–so happy you shared this with us. I am so happy that finally y’all know what it is. My best to Shaunna!!!
Hoping for a speedy recovery!

how terrible and yet sweet that you took over her blog, sure go ahead paint that chair show us your talent!! my prayers are with your wife i am sure she will be just fine.
Prayers for Shaunna – and skill for the Dr’s and a quick recovery! Thanks for keeping us all up to date on what’s happening.
There is a way she can avoid more stones in the future!
My husband suffered for many years and we took many, many late night trips to the ER before he finally was referred to a wonderful urologist you told him to simply drink at least one beer per week.
Yep, you heard right…at least a beer a week (my husband is not a drinker) to keep kidney stones away. Hubby has done the beer a week per the doctor’s recommendation and has not had a kidney stone in 15 years.
Please give our bloggyworld love and best wishes to Shaunna!!! Thinking of you guys and sending lots of positive vibes your way.
You are such a sweet husband to not only blog for your sweet wife but to actually worry about a hospital make over. Yes that may be in order. Here’s hoping Shaunna is up and around soon.
Ouch! I hope she is out of pain and on the mend soon. Sending prayers for a speedy recovery. In the meantime, you may need to hide her paint brushes!
Ah, Matt, better have some ginger ale and saltines at the ready. Wonton soup is a wonder once she’s feeling better. Get your rest, too. You’ll need it! (My hubby has passed 56 (seriously!) kidney stones over the past 30 years… is presently dealing with a 1.2cm brute — oy!) Love and gentle hugs to Shaunna. Bet she’ll be up and painting again soon. Maybe buy her some flowers for the nightstand, if you get a chance? Bet she’ll melt… – tmt
My brother in law was told to drink a whole bunch of coke if any symptoms came about, and of course lots of water all the time.
Oh, no! How sweet of you – to take over the blog. Wish you a speedy recovery.
Oh goodness…so sorry to hear this Matt. Please give Shaunna my love and prayers for a quick recovery.
What a sweetheart you are

Oh, no, so sorry to hear Shaunna is having surgery, but glad y’all have found out what was going on. Praying for a speedy and painless recovery. ♥
Hey friends,
It was so good seeing you both today. Wish it hadn’t been in the hospital, but I’m sure sweet Sha-oona Bear will be up and at ’em and ready and rarin’ to go on Ava’s room SOON!
Bear hugs to you both!
Layla 🙂
Hope she feels better in no time, and what a sweetie you are for keeping us all informed
Matt – I am not only totally impressed that you stepped up and took over the blog – but also that you know the words chalk paint. Wow!
Sending thoughts and prayers your way!
oh shawna, I’m so sorry. I developed/passed my first kidney stone about a month ago and it was such a difficult experience. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone! I remember feeling so relieved to know exactly what the problem was – because the pain and other side effects can be really scary when you don’t know what is going on.
May you be safe, and recover quickly.
Oh, poor Shaunna. I know her pain. I have had stones of the very large variety that do not pass for several years now. I am once again going, this Friday, to have them laser blasted. Wishing her a speedy recovery.
I hope she gets to feeling much better soon (which I know she will). I’m a man that’s lived with these darn things (being very polite about it) and knows the pain very well. I’ve passed some and had one removed the same way. Tell Shaunna relief is on the way!
Lets see how you find a way to decorate with Shauna’s boulder!
Speedy recovery.
~Bliss~
Thinking and praying for you Shauna! Hope you have a speedy recovery! Happy 4th to you and your precious family!!!
I apologize for misspelling your name..let me correct myself…*Shaunna*!!!
Oh no! So sorry to hear your in the hospital! How cool of your husband to update us. You are such a trooper and you keep that sweet smile of yours even though your in a lot of pain. I pray you have a speedy recovery!
Matt … please send hugs to Shaunna for me…bless her. Happy you found out what was going on and wishing her a speedy recovery. She is a gem to work with and just the sweetest person. Lots of love and best wishes, Kim
Worst. pain. ever!! I hope Shaunna is feeling better soon. 🙂
praying that all goes well and that Shaunna recovers quickly- yeah no pain!!
PS- Shaunna better hurry and get better before you take over the blog- good job!!
Oh, I hate to hear this. I have had kidney stones. No fun at all. Worse than child labor for me and mine were small. Hope she feel much better soon!
Oh no…I hope you are feeling better soon. I guess you didn’t know that mothers are not allowed to be sick.
Please get plenty of rest.
Hope she’s well soon!! Kidney stones are painful!!
Thanks for keeping us updated. Hope she has a quick and restful recovery. Time for you and your little cutie patooties to spend some serious quality tme together 😉
Best wishes Shaunna! Sometimes God just has to force us to relax, doesn’t he! Lol!
And I cracked up at the photo of the hospital room! I do the same thing any time I am there…I just want soooo bad to whip out my paint brush and liven the place up! ;o)
Mary
What a great hubby you are Matt, to keep the blog world informed. Thanks! Thinking of u Shaunna. I’ve had kidney stones several times & know how painful & awful it is!
Shaunna, good luck and my prayers are for a full and quick recovery for you! Take comfort in small things, or big ones like the fact that your husband is a thoughtful man who loves you very much!
Matt you are too funny, I am sure she has some great ideas to spruce up that little homely corner. 🙂 I hope Shuanna is feeling much better soon!
Matt, I am more than impressed that you blogged for your wife. So nice. Lance wouldn’t know how to even sign onto my blog. HA! Hope she feels better and is feeling 100% soon!!!
Brianne
Feel better soon!
Prayers for her safe removal of the nasty stones and restore her health.
Praying for you!!! I’m still so sad that you were so sick and missed Haven and I missed you. I hope this passes soon and you will be up and running pain free. Take care!
Poor thing. I hate that she was sick during Haven. I had an ER visit this morning for the same reasons, so I literally “feel her pain”. I hope her surgery goes weill and that she has a speedy recovery.
Sharon @ mrs. hines class
Oh, Matt! Hope she’s back on her feet soon. I read that she wasn’t feeling well at Haven. I hope the surgery goes well.
I have had kidney stones and they HURT!! Glad all is well now…
funny with technology there is no place one cannot blog..or pin:)
happy 4th
xo
Best wishes for successful treatment! BTW, too funny!
Hope you are feeling MUCH better today! And thanks, Matt, for letting us know what was going on – you are right, who the heck picks out hospital furniture?? 🙂
Shaunna, hope you’re feeling better soon. Kalei just went through the same thing. His surgery went really well but he continued to have that same sensation of paint for another week after, almost like his brain still thought the stones were still there. Feeling like a champ now. Sending prayers your way ~ Shelly Andrade
Oh no! Poor thing! I hope she feels like a million bucks after the doc removes the boulder. I can’t even imagine the pain she’s been feeling.
Hoping the surgery went well and Shaunna is on her way to a speedy recovery. Please tell her to rest up!!!
Shaunna,
Hope you are feeling better! My daughter had that in April and she’s only 15. It was no fun seeing my baby in so much pain! Her’s was trapped in her ureter and wouldn’t move down any further. I can spot a kidney stone. If I had heard about your back pain, I would have told you to go get an ultrasound!
The good news is that once that sucker is gone, life is sooooo much better.
Best wishes!
Jenny
Praying all goes well and comfort comes soon!
Good thoughts Shaunna! Hope you are on the road to recovery soon.
Oh! I was away on holidays and just saw this! glad to hear there’s a solution so Shaunna can get well. Love ya girl!
xo,
Shannon
So sorry to hear about your Boulder sized Kidney Stone, Shaunna. Get better soon. Thank you Matt, for letting us know.
Shaunna and Matt,
Praying for a quick recovery and blessings to you both! Why a little surgery won’t slow her down very long! But please take care and know that we are thinking of you!
Hope you feel better soon, Shaunna! And glad to hear that nothing can stop you from talking about your most recent love: chalk paint! 🙂
Jess & Monica
Thoughts and prayers for you Shaunna! Hope you make a very quick recovery.
Prayers for a speedy recovery!!
