It is a funny thing writing about your home.
About anything, really.
When you write about something, sometimes people think you’re writing about perfection.
You talk about organizing, so you’re never supposed to have dirty dishes in the sink.
You write about fashion, so you’re never supposed to wear sweatpants.
You write about your home, so you never supposed to make messes.
But that’s the beauty of this blog–it’s me. It’s real life, and life is messy.
And this?
This is what my living room looks like most days.
There are tents, couch turned trampolines, and piles of stuff everywhere.
It drives me quite crazy, especially if I spent the previous day putting away, folding, and scrubbing.
But I love this house.
We love this house.
I think it shows.
Yes! Love it! Might as well LIVE in the Living Room!! 🙂 xoxo
This is what a house is for – to LIVE in! Blanket forts are so fun- a pain to clean up but fun to play in.
Love it when house bloggers share that their house gets messy, just like mine. Sometimes I feel like I’m the only one. Piles and forts…it’s how we live here too! 🙂
My house too! But, I completely remember making blanket forts as a kid! Telling secrets and making up stories with my brothers are some of my best childhood memories. Thank goodness for the wisdom of my mother who realized that messes could always be cleaned up, but a happy home was irreplaceable!
Oh, I love it! It’s a mess, but such a FUN mess!
Love that you share with us….you are right….life is messy…that’s what makes it so happy!! Have a great day!
My boys used to do the exact same thing! One day you will look back and wonder where the years went! Enjoy! 🙂
Thanks for always keeping it real! You’re great. 🙂
Love the quote…so true! My boys are constantly throwing pillows on the floor and making forts and trampolines, etc. Drives my hubby nuts, but I love to see their imagination.
Hey – looks like my house! Awesome. Thanks for the validation. 🙂 Once heard a professional organizer speak (who also had a syndicated radio spot) – she said something to the effect that “you have to be realistic about where you are at in life or you’ll beat yourself up trying to do the impossible. If you have small kids, accept that there will be mess and chaos. Accept it, embrace it, do the best you can and relax about the rest – your kids are more important than your home being immaculate.” I got over myself that day. Er, maybe a little too much, but I’m a whole lot less frustrated!
So glad my kids aren’t the only ones who hang in their underwear while playing around the house! 🙂
Hi Shaunna…I’m sort of a new follower but have been visiting for a while. I loved this post and just had to tell you. My kids are grown now but I remember the days of building forts, Legos and Barbies. They are precious memories. I would give just about anything to go back and repeat one of those sweet, ordinary days. You are blessed.
looks like HOME to me….love it!!
Oh I loved this! It’s what my house looks like too ;D. Yours is still better as even your ‘tents’ are white! So much chic-er! Lol
My grown children don’t remember whether our house was neat and tidy when they were small- what they remember are the tents and forts and the fun they had.
This is must like my house too! It is always nice to see other “real” home sometimes. As soon as I clean a room and move to the next one, my kids are tearing apart or spreading toys somewhere else, but that’s life, right? I used to get so frustrated about not keeping up with cleaning while doing things I love like painting furniture, but I finally learned to put it all into perspective…it sure took me long enough!
Thanks for sharing this with us,
Kristen
You’re so right…I love seeing the true behind the scene…thanks for keeping it real…I must go fold the laundry, do dishes…:)
I stress about the house every hour of every day, but I’m pretty sure in a couple of years I’ll look back and wonder what the big deal was. Kind of like milestone birthdays I dread.
At my Mam-maw’s funeral, one of the things her children loved best about her was that she would let them make huge messes, as long as they cleaned them up. They were happy in their home. I want that to be my legacy, too.
Thanks for keepin’ it real! Love you.
I love these types of posts, especially because the baby just climbed over a couch cushion that’s on the floor because 3 year old is building a fort as I type.
Looks just like my house! I try so hard to tidy up behind my kids. They are always building forts and tents with blankets and couch cushions. I often describe cleaning my house like straightening the chairs on the deck of the Titanic. I clean constantly because there are those moments when it stays clean for just a little bit and I feel so accomplished…then everyone comes home from school and destroys it again. Oh well.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing the *normal* with us! I still think you’re quite magical in keeping those couched WHITE with 2 little ones!!
I agree with the Colleen above {great name}, the years are going to fly by and one day our house will be cleaned and not touched- then we’ll sit back and think “man, I miss those little hand prints on the walls and feet running up the halls” {well, maybe for a moment at least!}
Blessings!

Oh, Colleen…if you could see it in person. It’s a few years old now, and there are pen marks going nowhere and it gets quite dingy when it’s time to wash/bleach. No magic…just photographs better than it can look sometimes.

I think it’s safe to say for anyone that has boys, our homes will look like this 🙂 Nice to see I’m not the only one . Ha!

Oh yeah, that looks familiar. I need a time lapse video to record from morning to night so I can see how it gets from point A to point Z by bedtime!
On another note, are you keeping up with the neat, pretty pantry? I’m debating a pantry makeover but I’m scared it won’t be functional enough….
You must see this pin on Pinterest… perfectly sums it up!

I loved your post. It is so refreshing! My house is a wreck right now as I have been busy working on projects and the fact I have 3 kids, a dog and cat. Better memories with a messy house? Maybe! Thanks!
One day your home will be eerily still – and quite clean – and you will long for those crazy, messy days. My boys are in college now and when they come home it’s as if a tornado hit our house, but I love every messy minute of it (although, after three weeks I go bonkers . . . still love it but bonkers).
I know this probably sounds crazy, but I miss the days my boys set-up forts on the living room. i miss the play and the imagination, and listening to them play.
Enjoy!
Ahhhahahahah! That first picture is awesome! And SO my house all.the.time. 😉 I think there were 3 forts in our living room today??? Thank you Shaunna ~ this made me laugh. And kind of made my day. 🙂
Hello,
Thank you so much for your great blog. I like your blog. Keep posting.
I LOVE this post, Shaunna! And haha! I really love your kids running in their undies. Even in the winter Lillie hates wearing pants. Love all the tents!
Normally I am kicking underwear out of the picture, so I can totally relate to this!
LOL, I totally do the same thing.
🙂

Love this post! Thanks for keepin’ it real. My house looks like this too – 3 boys equals a lot of tents!
Oh…I love your “home” too!
🙂
I love when bloggers, especially decorating ones, show their house “in use”. It is just so cool to see that your house looks like mine does most of the time. Frustrating? Yes!!! But, it is what it is…no use getting all upset when it’s a mess. It’ll clean right back up, I tell myself.
Just stumbled upon your blog and can so relate to forts everywhere…and when they are not building forts inside they are trying to take things outside to build….from another post, I noticed the Family Rules print….did you make that? I love it!
