Family is something we talk about quite often here at pi.
You guys know how important my little ones are to me, and I believe you know, as well as I, what a struggle it can be to be ever-present in their lives.
Especially for those of us who are passionate about design, decor, creating spaces. It’s not all about the house, after all.
Enter The Present Family.
My friend, Ashley from The Handmade Home, and I have both been reminded of how important it is to not only include our kids in projects, but to be present.
To give them the gift of time. Present time.
Do you guys feel that??
That pressing weight to do, do, do?
To get it all done?
I think we all do. Even if we are purposeful in our time with our families, it’s pretty simple to get caught up in the daily grind: breakfast, pack lunch, errands, projects, blogging, groceries, dinner cooking, bath time, story time, bed. Crash.
And that’s the short list.
This new series is something Ash and I are SO excited about!! It’ll be full of fun, SIMPLE, ideas to enjoy those “stop & remember” moments with your families.
We’ll come up with easy crafts to do with them, talk about how to involve them in your own DIY projects, and hopefully, we’ll all inspire each other to enjoy the little things.
It’s not all about the party, after all. It’s about the birthday girls, and the birthday boys.
I hope you’ll hop on over to Ashley’s today, to see what she thinks about all of it. I can’t wait to kick our new series off next week…come back for some easy-peasy fall crafts to do with your kiddos!
Here’s to being a present family, this holiday season and always.
🙂
Oh! Clever, clever. I’ve been pinning these kind of activities like mad. I worry that in the rush of dinner, phone calls, laundry…..that I miss time with my wee one at night so we’ve been trying to ‘do’ one special thing a night. It might just be cookie cutters and playdough but we’re all there together and nothing else is in the way. So looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Thanks so much.
Wow! So inspiring! Can’t wait till next week! Stop by when you have a minute!!!
I love what you have to say! I was just thinking yesterday (when I was driving the mom taxi to the orthodontist, practice, clubs, etc…) that the busy times are such a blessing. I have older kids and being present means loving those daily life moments:)
What a wonderful idea!!!!
Looking forward to the journey-you both are my favorite bloggers and I was just trying to explain this “live in the present, enjoy every moment” struggle to my husband. Can’t believe you are going to cover this. I told my husband that it is “blog therapy” that gets me through the hectic day to day! Can’t wait!!
I am SO thankful that y’all are doing this!! I have a 3 month old, a 5 year old and a 6 year old who stay home with me. I’m trying to delve into a little business, trying to fix our house, trying to balance everything out. But I really want the most important thing; time with my family. I can’t WAIT to follow along and get some ideas!
This is SO great and a much needed constant reminder. A present family definitely has to be intentional about it these days. Thank you both for highlighting this perspective! 🙂
Really nice idea. We were busy doing DIY stuff all weekend, but my kids and my family are the most important in my life.
Hi Shaunna,
This is so close to my heart. I’d love to tee up with you on this. In our house we do Crafternoon several times a week. My kids love it, me too. I just posted about it this week. http://lilyfieldlife.blogspot.com/2011/11/crafternoon.html
I totally agree that this time with our kids is so special. Also if you give kids what they need they actually become less demanding rather than more so.
Cheers Fiona
I am grateful that my children love doing crafts! It is a perfect opportunity to talk and learn about what goes on in their lives. My almost 13 year old daughter and I venture out to craft shows and then sit down at home and just create. I have learned a lot over the years and I am proud to say at almost 13 she still wants to do crafts!
This will be a great series! You and Ash are awesome. 🙂
I feel overwhelmed with our kitchen renovation right now, but I am trying to live in the present. I stopped everything to sit with my 12 year old and watch tv for an hour last night. It was golden!
He’s growing up so quickly, and I don’t want to miss out.
I still have a lot to learn. Can’t wait to read your posts. 🙂
Blessings,
Traci
This grandma is EXCITED about this new venture of yours. In my old age I’ve figured out I REALLY want to make each moment count with my children and grandchildren. “Things” really aren’t the most important thing. I’m proud of you young moms for getting it!
I.love.this.
I am a teacher and I tell my students that “your text has to match your illustrations/photographs.” Boy, do these shots match your “be present” text!
Thank you!

WAY COOL!!!! I’m making Christmas ornaments with my kids this year and we’re having so much fun doing it. Thanks for making me feel a little better about myself always “working” with my kids. They love getting involved and it I think it helps getting them to be creative like mommy:-)
Thank you,

You are on the right track!
This is great! My motto lately has been ” When you are where you are…BE THERE!” Same thing you’re saying. It’s a hard thing sometimes but repeating it over an over makes me more aware to be present! Looking forward to this series!
I need this more than you know. It’s a constant struggle to take things off my plate so I can be there for my kids. Thank you for trying to make it easier for me. 😉
I love this! My daughter is only 1 so I’m not sure how many crafts she can really help with. But I think the lessons of being present are oh so important! Can’t wait to read more. : )
