I LIVE in Alabama.
I in no way in my post this morning was “digging” at Alabama. I said, “i didn’t feel like I was in Alabama.” It didn’t. I never knew there was a winery 100 miles north of me….it didn’t feel real. Vacationing in a castle in Alabama didn’t feel real. It was wonderful…but felt unreal to me. I loved every minute….just like I love every minute of my life here in Alabama.
That’s all. Whoever anonymously commented, I am sorry you felt that way and I hate you don’t know me better….I would never be so careless and ugly. I am sorry if it came across the wrong way. I in no way was trying to attack my own state and am also very protective of it. If you have read my blog enough, you would know I talk about my southern accent, love my life here, and “hey y’all” frequently. I did delete your comment because honestly, it hurt my feelings and made me really sad.
Let me say one last thing. If ever anyone has a problem with something on this blog, please confront me through email in a kind way. I would never anonymously lash out at you, and I would appreciate the same kindness. That’s the trouble with technology…with email, blogging, texting….you cannot hear a person speak. No one could hear the way I was gently laughing and smiling to myself because I was tickled and surprised. You couldn’t see my face when I found that beautiful winery. Please do not assume the worst of me…I would not of you.
Thank you for reading and for loving our state, though!
Thanks so much and y’all have a wonderful Tuesday!
Some people in blogworld do this from time to time, I've seen it happen on several blogs when they start to get really popular. Good for you for addressing it upfront and I'm sure it was just jealousy on someone's part. I follow your blog and in no way do you come across as a mean person so poo to the anonymous coward!!!
Okay, people who leave mean anonymous comments bug. Don't they?! I mean, I understand that everyone has a right to their own opinion, BUT, this is your blog. They don't have a right to express that opinion on your blog, nor do they get to say mean things about you. And the fact that we have to explain ourselves just makes me angry. I had a nasty commenter a few months ago and she attacked me personally, and it bothered me FOREVER! Don't let it bug you!
I've never been to Alabama but I thought that post was something the Alabama tourism board could use. It made me want to visit Alabama. I thought it was wonderful. I would just ignore rude comments like that. Like you said, they don't know you. I live in Texas and am proud of it and my southern drawl. Most people think Texas is just cowboys so I know what you mean when you say "it doesn't feel like Alabama." You were just spotlighting a piece of Alabama people may not be aware of.
You do not need to apologize for anything you write on YOUR blog. It is YOUR blog filled with Your opinions. And if someone does not like it, then that is THEIR problem. And they should just move on and put their comments elsewhere, if you know what I mean 🙂 You did the right thing deleting the comment. But, try not to let it hurt your feelings!
But how else is someone supposed to pick on you but anonymously? 🙂
Oh. My. So sorry this happened to you! I live in east TX & there are aspects of it that are not typical of east TX. I love the unusual & unexpected & I love the typical. . .except for a toilet in the front yard used as a flower pot! LOL
Your post made me want to see that place! Not the other way around. I love the information and resources of the internet but it really bugs me how dehumanizing it is. I think if you wouldn't say those mean things to a person's face (in the case of your anonymous commenter), you shouldn't type it to them. Opinions are a given right, but some people troll around trying to pick a fight or trying to distract from the main issue of a post/blog/article. I know people who troll for entertainment. They think it's funny how worked up the author gets over their snide remark and how easy it is to have all the other commenters get off track from the main topic.
I googled wineries in AL and there are a LOT. I didn't know of any other than Harpersville.
Thank you guys very much for the support. I also in no way want to be ugly to whoever commented…just want to make them aware that it was not my intention and to help them see that maybe taking a second to find out more about me might have helped. I did want to walk around crying this morning, so thanks for cheering me up! 🙂
I am from Alabama and I LOVED your blog post! I would have had the same surprised look finding a winery in our neck of the woods. Don't let people like that get to you – they are only trying to make themselves feel better by making you feel bad. I know I am only a itty bitty piece in blogworld, but I do enjoy reading every one of your posts 🙂
Your positive attitude is what makes your blog a pleasure to read. Happy Anniversary from the stifling humidity of Orlando. Everyone thinks our city is nothing but fast food restaurants and theme parks. I am always amazed at the diversity of all our states and each one holds unexpected places, even for those who live there.
Okay, I reread your post and I cannot see how Anonymous found it derogatory toward Alabama. Either way, it was a great post with to die for homes. Your surprised reaction to the winery sounds pretty much the same as mine several years ago when I discovered there was a winery not too far from where I live in FL. When I discovered it, I did a search of Florida wineries and was surprised at how many we have! I love my state. We have a lot to offer but never thought of it as a wine producer.
i just recently found your blog…I'm loving it! I'm shocked that someone would leave a mean comment on YOUR blog…..it's YOURS! You can say whatever you want! I read the post and in no way thought you were putting Alabama down!
Yeah I read the post and can't figure out how anyone got offended by anything said there. Some people's children, I tell you.
I hate silly stuff like that Shaunna! It is your blog and you can say whatever you wish on your blog! People that love to twist things around ~ they are just jealous!
I enjoy your blog. You live a very blessed and beautiful life. Some people will enjoy experiencing your adventures with you. Other folks will be provoked to envy. Anyone who takes the time to read your posts then snark anonymously would fall into the second group.
HaHa ~ I thought your winery post was funny ~ Maybe it's because I'm southern too, and like Molly said ~ EVERY state has it's stereotypes!
I'm still waiting for my first negetive comment lol. I'm not a sweet talker. I'm a realist. And if I feel I make my point better in my post with a "damnit" here and there then I insert it! lol. So I'm sure my day is coming but it is afterall… my blog. And the way I see it, people read it because they can relate to me and they like what they see. Those who don't are more than welcome to keep on down the road ;P
