When Lauren emailed me a week or so ago, I was so excited to hear from an old college buddy!! She lives just up the road near Prattville, Alabama and she has a beautiful family…and they’re about to welcome a baby girl into this world in a few short weeks.
She emailed to ask if I had any suggestions for the dresser she bought (boy, do I!), but she mentioned that the room wasn’t ready yet. She’ll be coming into a house full of sweet little boys, but my first thought, was, man, she needs her own space.
And I can totally relate to Lauren…and I’ve been 4 or 5 weeks away from my due date and let me tell ya, that’s no time to be painting furniture and hanging drapes. It wasn’t for me, anyway.
So I just asked if she’d let me run up there and help her do it in a day or so. She was adorably sweet and said yes! Little does she know, I love this stuff so much, she’s doing me a favor. Plus, I need a good baby fix, and sprucing up a little girl’s retreat will do just the trick.
🙂
It’s very rare for me to receive an email from any of you guys (let alone a college friend!) who live an hour away from me…it seemed only fitting that I help her out! I’m thrilled to work with her to create Ryann’s room, and I cannot wait to get started this week!
I asked Lauren to shoot me some pics of the room…and here’s number one.
The Pros:
- She has her furniture already–and it’s beautiful!
- bead board provides such architectural interest
- there’s a dresser waiting to be painted and spruced up
- The red is a little intense for many spaces, let alone a nursery
- we need to finish some elements like trim and bead board
Fun, right?!?
We’ll go with gray (with some blue undertones) on the walls, and accent the room with texture, some yellows, blues, and, of course, modern pops of pink. These are simply ideas…and I’m sure the actual room will look a little different, but I think this is a great start.
I reached out to my AMAZING SPONSORS and lots of them are sending art and pieces for Lauren’s nursery…this amazes me and makes me SO thankful that I am blessed to work with such talented, generous ladies. You’ll hear all about what they each make/send when we reveal the nursery.
So, we’re talking paint, paint, paint, and the fun part: dressing the room. We’ll also be videoing the whole process so you guys can see how we get from A to Z. Here’s where you come in:
If you live in the Montgomery area, and want to help us complete this room makeover on October 3rd, leave me a comment and let me know what you’d be willing to help us with!! It’s going to be a lot of work, but a TON of fun, and we’ll take any of you talented ladies on our team!!
We definitely need lots of painters, a seamstress (I’d love to make some simple new panels for the windows), someone to help video, snap photos while we’re working, etc.
Wanna help and have some fun? Let me know in the comments and I’ll email you to get you set up!
Can’t wait to help with this room, and hope to see you guys there, too. Plus, don’t tell Lauren, but I’m hoping she lets me dress the room for a reveal…and lets us surprise the socks off of her!
🙂
Love your inspiration board and can’t wait to see what you do! Wish I lived closer.
It’s exciting! I can’t wait to see what you do with this special little room. Lisa~
Oh, I REALLY wish I lived nearby {I’m in MN} — the ideas you have for the room are beautiful and the project sounds like so much fun! I can’t wait to see the finished nursery.
Love your ideas! I am so happy to see a movement towards nurseries that compliment the rest of the home!
I told Lauren I would stop by on my lunch break. I can’t wait to see the transformation and hang out with some of my college buddies! What a sweet thing you are doing for her. Ryann will be a very lucky little girl to have a nursery like that!
What an awesome friend you are- and amazing opportunity to highlight your lovely design talents. Best of luck for the big day!
Love all the yellow and pink against the gray/blue. Can’t wait to see the reveal!
man oh man, I wish I lived closer and could help! I just finished helping a friend design her nursery and I loved it: http://honeysuckleblog.blogspot.com/2011/08/baby-girl-nursery-mood-board-to-real.html
I’m itching it do it again! Your inspiration board looks great!
So fun!! I wish I lived down south for lots of reasons, but I’m up here freezing my butt off in Chicago 😉 I can’t wait to see what you guys end up with!!!!
Sounds like alot of fun! You are a good friend 🙂
Ahh, love your inspiration board. What a great room to work with. If I lived close I would definitely help you ladies out. How fun! Have a great time. I can’t wait to see the after pics. = )

I can’t wait to see what you do with this room. Love your site too!
YAY! 🙂
Sounds like a blast – 2 bad AZ is not AL. Can’t wait to see the nursery.
Your ideas look fantastic. Wish I too lived nearby to help and/or be helped! That little girl will have a gorgeous room.
I live about an 1 1/2 from Montgomery and I would LOVE to come but I’m a teacher and don’t think I can take off:( But would love to help make the window panels. I do a little sewing on the side and if it is a “simple” panel with the rings at the top I can do it. If I can get the fabric this week I can have the panels done by Sunday to bring to you. Just let me know! 🙂
So wish I could be there to help! My sister actually lives in Prattville, so I visit quite a bit. This weekend, though, I’ll be busy moving furniture in my own space. Bummer!
If you ever want to help redesign a home built in 1853, let me know! 🙂 My sister is turning it into a bakery and cafe in downtown Prattville, and there is mucho work to be done! You can see a picture of the house at http://www.chichistudio.com/inspiration/2011/8/1/redesign.html
Have fun with the nursery!
Oh that is going to be so cool. How wonderful that you can do this for an old friend. That little baby is going to have one awesome room to live in.
I’d love to come and help, Sha-oona Bear!
😀
I live in Prattville. If you still need additional help with painting or whatever, I would love to help. I’m not a professional painter, but I have repainted almost all the rooms in my house (& my mom’s house) over the past two years!
Lorrie, what’s your email so I can send you some details?? SO excited to have you on board!!
🙂

Just now seeing your comment. If it’s not too late to get the details for tomorrow, I would love to help. I’ll email you my info in a minute.
Boo-hoo! Two years ago, I would have been there to help you sew and paint up a storm! We served in a church near Dothan, Al (in GA) for 4 1/2 years. Oh, how I miss those beautiful white sands of the Gulf. If you ever need help from VA, I’m your girl…
I look forward to seeing the results!
hmm….I’ll have to see if I can rearrange my schedule. This sounds like so much fun and I’m in Birmingham. I sew too.
I’ll see what I can do and let you know!
I will be at my friends this weekend in Hoover (I live north of Atlanta) and would have a blast being able to help! I have six kiddos and hardly ever have time to do the things I love which include well, everything I see on your blog 🙂 I have the same style and love for decorating and refurbishing things that were trash. I would be able to help on that monday or even days surrounding. Let me know if you could use my help 🙂
Hey Jenny! Awesome! Send me your email and I’ll send you some more details!

Oh how I wish I could… I’m going to be working on a house at Lake Harding, between Columbus, GA and Auburn, AL! If I wasn’t already committed to be there, I would gladly make my way to Prattville. I love your ideas and think that the nursery will be just awesome. If you ever need any help again, I would love to help. I can sew, paint (furniture and walls), hang wallpaper, and I love me some crafty projects too. Can’t wait to see how it turns out!
Shaunna
I would love to stop by and help, but my son is off from school Monday. So I will have him and two other children in tow. I live in Prattville and will be in town all weekend. If you need any prep work to be completed, just give me a shout.
Sandra
