I’m over the moon for these two.
this flower-bearing little dude.
and this flower-wearing dude-ette.
I do get asked at least several times a day (just like we all do…cause we all ask each other), how I get it all done in a day.
And you know the answer…I don’t.
The dishes pile high, the laundry is my ever present nemesis, and my kids are not even dressed half the day. Nor am I, but we can address that in another time.
I’m serious. They live in their underroos.
And something like this usually happens while I’m working at the kitchen table every morning. Especially on slipcover-washing day.
See? The underroos. They are the must-have fashion accessory around here.
This little one, well, she usually pushes the limits and begins to climb on something off limits. And she goes into time out. (She also still can somehow twist our hardware on the sideboard, and has officially hidden one of the pulls)
Time outs don’t really bother this one. She eventually convinces me she needs some no-get, otherwise known as yogurt.
And she proceeds to take a bath. In the no-get.
Every time.
Well, he’s the funniest man in my life. I’ve got a few friends that have been telling me I’ve gotta include him in the blog and keep track of all of his funny ways.
Most recently, Matt was out of town. It had been a few days of mama on call 24/7 and eventually one (that’s me) wears out. I was fighting raising my voice and laying down in the floor for a tantrum, when Gray, the four year old, said, “Mommy, I need you to do something. Can you just choose to be happy?”
Duh.
I was totally mortified and full of love for him…What a little man?? I’m pretty sure he told me the same night that the situation was exasperating. “Mommy, it’s just soooooo exasperating!”
And I’m pretty sure that I’ve never said that word to him. Ever.
In the interest of remembering every moment, I think they may come hang out with us like this every now and then. You’ll find them hanging under “reflections” in the navigation bar up top.
They’re growing up so fast, and this mama can hardly stand it. Especially when the four year old realizes I’m the one who needs to choose to be happy.
Here’s to being a happy mama today.
🙂
Your such a brat! This post is wonderful, and um made me cry a bit…what a way to snap back to reality and smell the roses huh…Grayson seams like a very smart lil man, and Ava a sweet lil gal. You have got your hands full…but you will manage as long as you choose to be happy 🙂 {lol love it}
Ha! Nikki, your comments always make me laugh! Hate to make you cry, but glad you liked it.

Love this post. I am a mama choosing to be happy and choosing my kids over my blog the past few days! I have never been so in love with my kids! My 3 almost 4 year old has never been so challenging then he is right now but I am ok with it!
Thanks, Holly. Yep, every few days you gotta shut the laptop and hang with them. Hope you have a great day with them today!
🙂

I am here to tell you…enjoy them everyday. They will grow up too fast, my youngest is 23. But, then they bless you with grandchildren and you get to send them home before the situation becomes ‘exasperating’. Don’t forget to take a time out yourself once in a while, and just take a deep breath!
God Bless your family.
What a blessing you and your husband were to me last night!!! After a trying day, I went to bed feeling full after our conversation. Blessings to you and your family. God is Good and I love how He puts others in our path to lift us up!! Libby
Couldn’t help but notice one of the commenters is also named Cherie, and spelt just like mine!! (I’ve only come across 3 other Cherie’s in my lifetime, so I must say that excited me. LOL.
Shaunna,
You don’t know me, but I’ve been following your blog for some time now. LOVE it. And I LOVED this post. LOVED. 🙂 Made me feel all giddy and happy and quite blessed to be a Momma myself… thanks. 🙂
Cherie
I love that your son said that to you!!! Children are so wonderful and such blessings. We always say to our daughter to “be nice” (she is 2 but it sometimes feels like she is 13) and the other day was a really rough day around here. She looked at me and in her im a parrot to my mommy voice she said. “Mommy you be nice!” WOW. I think I just looked at her, not knowing what to say for like a full minute… I actually wanted to laugh but thats never good… LOL …. I think I told her not to correct her mommy but thank you for pointing out that mommy needs to be careful how she talks. Love her!
Oh and I love your ebook…. cant wait to really get a moment to read and watch without distractions!
Meghann
OMG, your babies are so breathtakingly beautiful! That pic of your little girl with her hands framing her face? Priceless!
Best,
Kimberly
Well, I can’t recall all the steps taken to find you site, but I love it. So much so, I’ve added you to my blog stop list.
Can’t wait to see more!

I have always loved your blog, but today…with the pics of your precious kiddos….I just HAD to comment. 🙂 They are precious!! Your blog has a little bit of everything……and that is why I love it. 🙂 Thanks for a great read and precious pics.
Niki~mom of three boys who are growing up WAY too fast. 🙂
Thank you Niki! That means the world to me.

They are so cute, and yes you should include them!!!! As a mama whose baby is about to turn eight it goes by far too fast. I homeschool and still don’t feel I have long enough with them. So write it all down so one day you will be able to reflect and cry and laugh at the way things were. My grandmother tells me every time I am with her that she wishes she would have played more with her kids (she played with them lots, she just still wants more), that she would have lived closer to her grandkids and that she was young enough to run with her great grands. A true mother’s heart cherish each moment, and I am glad that you are.
Cha Cha
Enjoy those precious little ones while you can; they grow up too quickly. My ‘little one’ is 29 and has blessed me with 3 wonderful grands, who are now growing up too quickly for this Nana! Take time out for yourself once in a while, let them stay in their underroos and choose to be happy Momma!
It makes me want to smile when I read your blog and remember back to when we lived that stage of our life. I am impressed that you realize this time does not last forever. Today my husband played golf with our 19 year old grandson while I shared the day with his little brother (17 months). What fun we both had. Then our son and a granddaughter joined us. Could not have been a more perfect day. Life continues to get better! Enjoy each stage!
That does sound like an awesome day, Jan! I’m kind of an old soul at heart, so I see how quickly this time is passing. Thank you for your sweet and thoughtful comment!
xoxo

LoVe IT!!! I’ve gotta catch up on your blog! I forgot how much I missed it! You are awesome!!!
They are both adorable. I just became a new mom myself and I’m loving all of the little things. I love the underoos! So cute.

What a great post! And that is too funny that he said that to you!
They are precious!!! I’m trying to savor every moment too! They grow up way too fast!
So cute! I love the pic of Grayson riding his bike in the house~that’s awesome! 🙂
These are absolutely the most beautiful kids I have ever seen in my life! I might be a slight bit partial, but I’m pretty sure they are just that amazing! I love your blog, and I love you all!
Your children are absolutely adorable! So, so happy to see that you guys live in your home! I love decorating and looking at all of the lovely blogs. I sometimes wonder how everyone keeps their homes looking so wonderful! I currently have clean, folded clothes on the loveseat ready to be put away, dishes piled in the sink, floors to be swept, and oh so many projects and ideas mulling around in my head. Thank you for keeping it real!
On a side note…do you like having a couch that is slip covered with little ones? How often do you wash it?
Thank you, Amanda! We definitely live (messily) around here. And yes, I love having the couch slipcovered. White is probably not the absolute best choice for little kids…but I got a great deal on them and wanted it more than any other color. So, I’m okay with the few stains bleach hasn’t pulled out. I realistically only wash them about once a month. That seems to be plenty, and I just remind myself that I wouldn’t have washed my upholstery at all, so once a month has to be good enough. 🙂
