When the people at Sherwin-Williams asked if I wanted to work with their new palette, HGTV HOME™ by Sherwin-Williams Softer Side color palette, I began racking my brain to decide which space to makeover/improve/tackle.
I’ve been at a makeover stand-still in our home for a while, because honestly, sometimes you just need to live in your home and not work on it. We’ve been gearing back up for makeovers and redo’s, and planning things that will make our home work for us better, but in the meantime, I couldn’t really decide on a space that needed painting now.
Enter Julie.
We had been talking about reworking her space repeatedly for months, and I had every intention of working on it with her, but we just hadn’t nailed down a timeline.
I know Julie to be a few things: glamorous, sparkly, vibrant, and spunky. What room should reflect your personality more than your bedroom?? It is all yours, after all.
She asked me if it would be crazy to paint an accent wall really, really dark??! Why, NO, I said! Then I began pinning and creating design boards and getting very excited about working on a space that was so different from my own.
This was one of my favorite images in working on her space. I knew we were definitely going with a dark accent wall–enter the moody, elusive Peppercorn. It’s such a gorgeous color. In fact, I’ve used it in my last two makeovers…Julie’s room & Lisa’s office. More than charcoal, but not solid black, it was the perfect starting point for the room.
Once I nailed down Peppercorn as the starting point, I knew we needed two more colors…a simple, light neutral for the other three walls, and a fun pop of color.
As I created Julie’s design board, I found this gorgeous pillow, and knew we had our color scheme.
We chose Porcelain as our wall color…faint enough to pass for off white, but warm enough to create a clean, but cozy space. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Mellow Coral for our fun pop in the room. I had thoughts of painting a piece of furniture with it, but I was pleasantly surprised to need the color in our closet turned office nook.
Julie’s space was absolutely thrilling to pull together, and it was such a transformation I hope she can enjoy for years to come. I think we’ve covered a lot, but let me know if I left something out or if you have a question.
Ohhh, and there’s something for YOU…Sherwin-Williams has graciously decided to give one U.S. reader 5 gallons of HGTV HOME™ by Sherwin-Williams Interior Paint! Just leave a comment below telling me which room(s) you need to revamp in your home.
Happy re-doing, friends!
**Thanks to Sherwin-Williams for providing the paint for this makeover & for this giveaway!
Well, I have to admit my style is very different from Julie’s…. but to completely redo a room is awesome! Our master bedroom and bathroom need work…. we moved in two years ago and still haven’t painted those. The bathroom has blue floral wallpaper from the eighties…
My master bedroom needs some serious revamping, it is more of a dumping ground for clutter than an oasis!
I would definitely revamp my master bedroom. For the past 10 years I have worked on other rooms throughout our house, but our bedroom is a yellow box with a bed, rocking chair, tv and exercise bike. Let me tell you it doesn’t evoke anything close to a haven. Thanks for the giveaway. So happy for your new association with Sherwin Williams & HGTV
Our master bathroom desperately needs a redo…as well as our front door. This would be such a big help!!
I would want to do my master bedroom, the hall bathroom, and the dining room. I have a lot to redo in my little time capsule house and would love the chance to be able to do that now. The room looks fabulous, I’m a huge fan of the contrast between the light and dark walls – it’s perfect!
I love this bedroom! Such great creativity!
We are closing on our new house next week. It’s straight out of the sixties, but has hardwood floors throughout. So the whole house needs updating! I think I’ll start with the living room and then work on the kids’ bedrooms. I’ll be trying to hold out on a kitchen reno for a year or two (smallest kitchen OF ALL TIME).
We bought a home about a year ago and are getting ready to start working on the whole thing bit by bit. It looks like 1980 when you walk through the door, so any room in our house would benefit from a refresh!
I would love to do a dark accent wall in our dining room. It’s in desperate need of a revamp as it still has some bad quality paint from when we bought our home. Would also love to try out Sherwin Williams paint as I’ve never been able to.
I need to repaint my staircase and upstairs hallways! I’m also looking at making a new office/crafting space. 6 years of living in my home and trying to do touch-ups has left it looking splotchy.
My son’s room is in desperate need of a makeover. We have lived in our house for almost a year and I am not sure how much longer he can take looking at a baby zoo animal border! He is 11! 5 gallons of paint would give some great motivation to finally do it!
I need to revamp my bedroom.
Well, I’ll probably be saving any paint for a future home where I’m actually allowed to paint! Someday I’ll have a kitchen to paint 🙂
We are currently re-doing our basement. Light, fresh colors will brighten the space up.
I have several rooms that need painting as we are in a new home so this would be AWESOME!! I would probably do my family room first. Of course, Julie’s bedroom makeover inspires me to tackle my bedroom first 🙂
It would be right to say the most of the rooms in my house need revamping but I will say two first and they are the guest room and the kitchen.
Awesome giveaway!
My bedroom is in desperate need of paint! With 10 ft ceilings and enough space for a king size bed and reading area, I’ve been hesitant to drop that much money on paint. 5 FREE gallons would really give me the help I need to get started! Keeping my fingers crossed!
LOVE this bedroom. I’m moving into a new apartment and my bedroom definitely needs a makeover — I can’t stand stark white walls!
We recently painted our nursery with Sherwin-Williams paint. It was the first time we used it, and we won’t be using any other paint besides theirs in the future. It covers SO well and their ‘Emerald’ Interior paint has NO fumes, which was perfect for the nursery.
The next room I’d like to tackle would be our guest room (since Grandma will be staying to help with the impending arrival soon) and our workout room, as it will get a lot of use once the baby has arrived, and I’m trying to get back into shape. A freshly painted room will feel refreshing and invigorating to help me get into the mood to workout!
Funny to see so many ladies wanting to re-do their master bedrooms! That’s me too….same peeling wallpaper since we moved in, 10 years ago. I so desperately want a mellow room with tranquil colors of the sea…. Thank you for the opportunity! 🙂
I’m converting a bedroom into a craft room/office and I am wanting to paint some stripes on the walls.
We’re actually in a temporary location until we buy a house (hopefully by the end of the summer) so we will have a lot of painting and revamping to do!

My kitchen and master bedroom could both use a fresh coat of paint! I love some of the colors in this line from Sherwin Williams.
Purchased a small 800 sq ft duplex in richmond va. 5 gallons of paint would go a long way and would be nice to have them flow nicely from on Rooney the the other. Afraid of the dark colors but line what you did, might get bold enough to go for it.
Love your post, Shaunna! You’ve got me excited to tackle the huge job of painting my wide-open living room, dining room, and kitchen. I’m really inspired by Sherwin Williams’ Neutral Nuance palette. Winning 5 gallons will definitely be a big help in this effort.
Cool Giveaway!
I would love to revamp my living room in Breaktime! Such a pretty color.
Prissy
I love how the room turned out! I recently started painting in our master bedroom, and I love the color I ended up with. I had started with MyColor by Pantone Medieval Blue, but found out it was not available after I’d exhausted my 1/2 gallon and needed more. I switched over to Pantone’s Moroccan blue, and I love it! It’s a little more gray, not as saturated, and going to be a perfect background for my art wall.
That said, I went with the master because I couldn’t fathom doing our living room. Tall ceilings and 9 shades & sheens (yes, there is flat and satin and semi gloss of 3 different colors on these walls) of light brown have fogged my creative brain. 5 gallons of gorgeous paint would definitely stir those creative juices again!
My master bedroom is up next!
We’re in the process of house shopping, so possibly all the rooms of our future house will need a bit of an update
I have been waiting to paint/’re do my daughter’s nursery until the budget allows…. she is a year old and still sleeping in my room! Her (future) bedroom is currently navy blue, I’m dying to paint it a nice sage-ish color. Great room btw, I love the bookshelves/built-in around the bed.
Need to repaint my bathroom since I broke a bottle of nail polish and it went up the wall!
My family room in the basement is waiting for me to make up my mind what I want to do with it! Some great free paint would be an excellent motivator for me to jump in and get er’ done! 🙂
I need to revamp my kitchen and living room! 🙂
We just did a dark accent wall in my son’s room! We are moving on to our bedroom or master bath next, not sure which, so that is where we will need the paint. I’m in love with Watery!
I would love to revamp my bathroom!
My kitchen is 30 years old and has fruit wallpaper! I have a vision for it which is creamy white with marble countertops, sparkly glass door fronts, and a rich wood floor… and of course Sherwin Williams on the walls!
Kitchen! Cabinets and walls
We bought our home about a year ago. Wow, that long already! I digress. I would do my kitchen/dining room. It is stuck in retro 70/80 mode. I need help desperately. I need to get creative with my budget to tackle this task!
My kitchen is in desperate need but so is the office and then there’s the bedroom…….you get the idea.
I need to pain my living room and computer room.
We have rented for 10 years and our family if 6 is looking to buy a fixer upper. Which means it will need lots of paint!! 🙂
I’d love to revamp my office
Our master bedroom desparately needs revamping! Its a big from with valted ceilings, but only one small window. We painted it a rich dark brown when we moved in 8 years ago, but have done nothing since. We even still have our childhood dressers in there – time for some updates! 🙂
Our main living space needs new paint. I’m soooooo tired of boring beige.
We just bought a house and our living room needs new paint
We are doing a complete renovation inside and out on a fixer upper we just purchased! My 15 year old daughter LOVES the color you used, would be beautiful in her new room.
Why can I not have an awesome friend like you that has great tastes and loves to redo things? Then I could have an awesome bedroom makeover like Julie’s room? I would love to add some spice to our room with some color on the walls. But then again, I’d love to add some color to pretty much all of our walls! 🙂 Thanks for the great give away!
This past year, I have painted for our church, our son’s home, and my husband’s parent’s home. Now, it is finally our turn! We will do some major renovation throughout our house! Love the new Sherwin Williams colors! Thanks for this opportunity!
When we bought our house two years ago we immediately painted all the rooms that I was mortified for anyone to see. That was all but three. The guest bedroom, guest bath and the room we affectionately call “the front room”. Would love, love the 5 gal to get me motivated!
Kids’ rooms!
You did a great job on Julie’s room! I would love to freshen up my very small and somewhat dark laundry room.
Your taste is eclectic and i love it!
I have recently downsized and have an open floor plan would love to re do it.
Our bedroom needs a makeover!
I would love to revamp our master bedroom. This is our third home and in everyone of them our master has been the last room touched….we wait until we are ready to sell and then finally finish the master. it would be nice to have a nice master from the start.
We love Sherwin Williams! 50% of our house is SW paint, and we need to paint the rest! Our guest bath, powder room, and 2 kids rooms all need a fresh coat of paint. Thanks for the giveaway!!
My living room and kitchen are in dire need of new paint.
First of all, I LOVE THIS SPACE! You did a great job! Two years ago I moved into a home built in 1967. Remodeled livingroom, kitchen, and created a mudroom from the garage. Now my bedroom, guest room, and office could really use an update! Thanks for the great inspiration!
My dining room and kitchen are at the top of the “get this house ready to sell” This would be so awesome to win this right now. Thanks for the giveaway.
my bedroom needs a makeover……and living room could use it too
I really need to revamp our master bedroom. After reading your post I think a dark accent wall would look fabulous! Thank you for the wonderful giveaway.

I would definitely paint my kitchen!!!!
Um, all of them? Would love to redo my boys’ bedroom.
My dining room. In full morning sun, it just looks – well – peach! Screams it as a matter of fact. When it’s overcast, like today, it’s a more muted terra cotta color, which is ok, but not fabulous!! I want a fabulous dining room and paint is the very first step.
I love Sherwin Williams paint! The room turned out so beautiful!!!
I guess I would say my bedroom but it is so tiny and crammed with stuff, I don’t think even paint would fit.
My master bedroom desperately needs painting!
Since I’m stripping wallpaper off one of my bedrooms I will surely need paint for that!
We are adding a master suite onto our home and turning the existing master into a homeschool room/playroom! This would be a God send!
Most of my home needs paint. We built the house 3+ years ago and most of it is still primer white. Not just the same color white as primer but actually just primer on the walls. We’re talking like one molecule thick of paint over drywall. Yeah, it needs paint real bad. I love the Sherwin Williams HGTV paint and would love 5 gallons of it in white, satin to paint over the primer all over the house. Thanks Sherwin Williams and Perfectly Imperfect for the give away!
I would finally paint our family’s main living space, kitchen, dining, living, all in one open room.
My husband & I bought our house 10 months ago, and we have yet to paint ANY walls. We are still in the process of furnishing our spaces and adding some paint would really help us personalize our spaces, especially our bedroom… since it has been the last room on the list, not sure why it wasn’t the first one!
I need to revamp my dining room!
Thanks to you and SW for a chance to win! I am trying to do some updating on a very small budget and this would def help.
I really need to revamp my master bathroom! Basically all I can do is change the wall color and a few accessories. It’s just so tired looking these days. It needs to wake up!
I am gearing up for my living room and stairway (which is way taller than I have ever tackeled!)
I need to makeover every room! 🙂
I want yo make over my master closet to look like a dressing room— with a sparkly chandelier!
We are hoping to paint our kitchen/keeping room area, which has been a lovely deep red for 11 years. It is time to refresh with a new color scheme. We are looking forward to a change!
I would love to revamp my living room
I need to revamp my kitchen. It’s really dated
I’m not sure if you are taking entries anymore, but I am in need of painting my bedroom. Currently, it’s three different shades. Yes 3. And it’s been like that for, um, a while. That and the green hallway that has been needed to be painted. Nothing like a could of gallons of pretty colors to get one motivated to freshen it up!
Well that’s not too hard! The dining room, family room, living room and laundry room. Well, maybe it is hard after all – where to start!
My husband’s office totally needs a re-do! Hello, there’s only so long those pictures can stay on the ground becuase of a color choice analysis-paralysis!
Master bath, closet and guest room. The list goes on!
