Good Monday morning, friends!
Before our trip, we worked on a few projects here and there. I popped in to my cousin Jennifer’s house the week before we left to work on a quick desk redo with her.
I couldn’t help but show you her gorgeous guest room while I was at it, though. Isn’t it lovely?!? She’s been lightening and brightening her home one room at a time, and I’m sure I’ll have to show you more one of these days!
There’s the desk over there in the corner, and while it looks wonderful in her room, it was actually on its way to their place at the beach.
My favorite element of the room has to be the nightstands–aren’t they fabulous? And the lamps, and the bedding…you get the idea. She worked with Ashley from Parish Designs, and I think they did such a wonderful job putting it all together! P.S. You can find the wonderfully talented Ashley here at her blog/website and here on Facebook!
I somehow have no before of this desk, but it was a burled varnished wood, in great shape but a little out of date. We painted it in a base coat of Old Violet CHALK PAINT & covered with a coat of French Linen.
We then finished with a coat of clear wax, and distressed very subtly. We left the original hardware to save cost and it looks great!
I think it turned out lovely!!
I’m dying to know…what furniture projects have you been working on lately??
What a beautiful space! I love the bedside table!
Thanks so much! I love those, too!!

What a great space!!! And really well done on that desk 🙂 I think my favorite part of the room is that fabulous mirror/wreath combo. I’m definitely going to have to steal that idea.
As an aside, your vacation posts are killing me! I spent 6 months studying abroad and did tons of traveling, but my sweet husband has never been to Europe at all. I SOOOO want to go with him and show him all my favorite places. I’m so happy you guys got such an incredibly special time together. How did you survive being away from you precious babies, though? I think I might die from missing mine.
What a gorgeous bedroom. I also love your desk redo. I’ve never worked with Old Violet before, but love the French Linen. Nice combination. x
Love this room! Where O Where is the bed from??
What a beautiful room. I finally am getting to the million little projects I have around my house. Mostly for my daughter’s room. She is getting ready to turn 3 so we are giving her room a little freshening. I am trying to get myself motivated for the major paint job I need to do for my kitchen. We inherited a house in April 2011 from my Grandpa in law. He was a heavy smoker and they cooked bacon everyday for 50 years in this house, I am having the hardest time finding something that will cut through the grease without poisoning my kids with fumes.
I found a wonderful product at Lowes called “Krud Kutter” It is fantastic for most everything in the house. You may give it a try!
Since I started reading painting blogs, I have become a painting fool! Ha My family laughs and says no furniture is safe from the paint brush. Our home has converted from primitive country to cottage. Love it. A huge thank you to you and bloggers that advertise on your page.
I love the simplicity of this room…the soft colors and LOVE the bed frame…adorable!
Love the room…so calming. Do you happen to know what color paint that is on the walls?
Hey Shaunna,
Her guest room is truly lovely! The desk is beautiful and I love the color choice.
Lately I have been busy painting pieces for my new shop on Main Street. Vanities, buffets, rockers, frames…etc. So much to paint…so little time!
I look forward to seeing you again in Atlanta. Be well.

I love the whole room! The desk is perfect!
Great post! Love the pictures. Thanks again for your help on the desk and the feedback around the house. PS- paint color is SW Natural Choice and the bed is from Hollis Furniture, which has a store in Brundidge. Can’t remember the brand.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing resources!

Love the guest room. I too like black furniture, but light color rooms. This sis fabulous! I jujst finished painting a pair of bedside tables in black. They are for my Daughter and her Fiance.
I am a newby at painting furniture, and have a whole garage of (free) stuff I have acquired that is begging for updated loveliness….I have been studying up on your blog on different techniques and can’t wait to get started….but O.M.G. those sidetables of your cousin’s are TO DIE FOR. I just might have to copy those also! 🙂 You keep me totally inspired girl, keep it up!!:)

I have to say that I love those night stands too! So unique!
Those end tables ARE amazing. So unique! !
What a beautiful room! The desk is lovely too, but those bedside tables make my heart stop. Love them. Gotta make them. Lisa~
I know, right?!? The difference is I’ll talk about making them, and you really will! So much more on top of things than I. 🙂

I’ve been painting furniture for years but since I found ASCP I’ve been a painting fool. Bed, dresser, sofa table, coffee table, side table and more. But now I have the most important painting project of all. After three wonderful grandsons, we are expecting a granddaughter in Oct. I have a dresser and a hope chest that I’m getting ready to paint for her. No doubt I will be thinking about her with every brush stroke!
What a great room, girl! Love those side tables. So glad we got to chat the other day, and so glad you are back safe and sound. I’m expecting a photo album when I see you again. So I can look at it and ooh and aaaah and live vicariously through you until I get to go in ten years. ;}
Wow it did turn out lovely! I love the neutral soothing colors used in the room. I’ve been working on painting my four year old daughters room to separate into her room and a nursery for her brother on the way. Talk about a tricky undertaking!
I love that desk. Definitely going to start searching online to see if I can find a similar one to buy.
Who makes the nightstands? Where can I get them?!? Thanks!
Hey Shana! I’m not sure–I’ll check into it for you.

Found a similar one here. Or try Ashley Gilbreath Interior Design, Montgomery AL
I love the wall color as well. Can you find out what the color is? Thanks!
I totally love the color of the bed. While I realize that this bed was probably purchased in this color, if you were going to paint a bed this color what would you suggest? I picked up a bed almost just like this at a yardsale for my oldest son’s room. I stained it a dark color and am not satisfied with it. Any suggestions?
Did you do the bed and dressers?
What a lovely makeover. The desk looks wonderful. Great job!
