Hi all!
I wanted to pop in to show a quick little makeover I did last week.
While part of me loved the warmth of this wooden bread box, I felt like it was a little dated and tired. A small, simple piece like this is perfect for a bold pop of color, so I went with Chalk Paint in Antibes Green.
It’s a little bright going on, but after it’s waxed, it’s absolutely grassy and luscious.
I really didn’t take many after’s of this one–I should probably do that for ya–but here it is in the display at the shop. I left the sides, back, and front more rustic by washing a coat on, and wiping it off with a damp cloth after it was dry. To tone down the brightness, I used Clear then Dark Soft Wax on it.
I loved getting my color on in this quick makeover! What have you gone bold with lately? I’ve gotta know!
you make me wish i lived in AL so i could visit your new shop! I have a question about chalk paint. When mixing white with other colors, do you prefer mixing old white with them or bright white?
Hey Laura! It really is up to you–if you want a little warmer colors, go with Old White. If you’d like cleaner colors, go with Pure. I’ve used both and love them both!

I absolutely adore this bread box! Such a happy green–I love that you went bold 🙂 The only thing I’ve gone bold with lately are green smoothies!
Ha! Nicole, that’s hilarious. I really loved it–it’s already sold. I wanted to bring it home I thought it was so cute!

Good Morning…Just popped on your site…Love it by the way…I was wondering what type of price range you get for your little green bread box? It is adorable…I am thinking of making a few to sell and always struggle with pricing…fun little things like that sell very well if priced right…we build them and then I finish them…such a fun thing to do…Thx
The only real color in my home is in our laundry/mud room. I don’t use much color….more earthy colors look best in my home. Still trying to get used to the red, and thinking about muting it a bit…decisions, decisions! Wish I had a designer friend in my area to “help”! 🙂

Oh, it’s all spring green apple-y happiness now! I love it. Time for me to pull out my spring painting projects and get to work!
I love it! That color is fantastic! I guess I need to add that to my online shopping cart : )
Where can I find this paint? I live in Richmond, VA and can’t seem to find it anywhere. Help!
I’m new to your wonderful blog; LOVE what you did w/ that old 80’s breadbox! I haven’t painted w/ chalk paint yet but now feel inspired. Did you paint the inside of it too? What kind of brushes do you use? Thanks 🙂
I love it! so fresh! I am obsessed with her chalk paint too- but I have yet to master the dark wax over the clear…. so much fun trying! Thank you for sharing all your great ideas- always an inspiration! I am going to be whitewashing my coffee table this weekend! 🙂
Hey Kelly – I feel ya…I finally got it…I waxed with the clear wax..then immediately added the dark wax…and wiped with a clean cloth…wiped what I wanted off…and if all the dark didn’t come off quite like I wanted..I just added a little clear wax and wiped again…it was amazing.I could actually manipulate all the dark wax to get the look I wanted. Good Luck to you…hope this helps. I’m pretty sure I got my pointers from Miss Mustard Seed tutorial on how to wax…she’s amazing! ( I watch so many that I tend to get confused) Between Marian and Shauna we should be able to accomplish much! We are blessed!
ooh shaunna i love that color. i need to pop in to the antique shop and look at all of your stuff and check out that paint. i haven’t been in there lately… too busy! but i like seeing your snippets on here of what you’ve got. 🙂
Shaunna,
I have had excellent adventures with Antibes Green and layering it over Barcelona Orange. Here’s the write up from my blog about my little modern-lined table now called Jasper.

And thanks for being willing to share all your great ideas all the time.
Ooo I want!! Such a pretty green and the wax really makes the difference.
Very cute – now I regret giving away my old breadbox!
Good choice!
~Bliss~
Love the color! Such a pretty shade of green.
I bought this paint on your recommendation. Besides the fact that I had to sell a kidney to afford it, I think its great. My question – the directions say to wax then sand. When i did that it made it so difficult. Is there a good reason I can’t sand and get everything looking the way I want before I start the wax?
Shauna this bread box in Antibes really pops on your shelf! I was so inpsired by your display that I had to step up my game in the store~I got a big hutch and it all looks so much prettier now….if only I could find a bread box!!
You’re too sweet, Amy–you know I’m LOVING your store! Fun to be doing all this at the same time, right?? Will you be at Haven?
🙂

What do you mean when you said you “washed it on” pertaining to the rustic look of this green box?
Thanks and so glad I found your blog to get my “creative on”
