If you’re a furniture painting gal (or guy) like me, then you’ve probably met Anne Marie of Twice Lovely.  She’s incredibly talented & refreshingly creative with her work.  So many of her pieces are completely unique, one of a kind pieces of art.  LOVE that about her.

I’m so excited to welcome her as a contributor to pi!  I think you’re going to love this…take it away, Anne Marie!

I was, of course, completely smitten with my Metallic Herringbone Desk when I did the big blog reveal in November.  It sold right away when I brought it into the shop, which tickled me.  But I was absolutely knocked off my rocker when it was given a delightful feature on Design Sponge!  That’s when it really hit me, herringbone is HOT!!

And once you start noticing it, you realize that it is everywhere!  In many different forms and incarnations.  I just love this organic, classic, more sophisticated older brother to the bold and geometric chevron design.

My good friend Cassie from Primitive and Proper gave props to my Herringbone Desk and proved that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.  I loved her sweet and modern side table with the hand-drawn herringbone pattern on the drawer.

With just some painters tape, a little math and some patience, you can have a gorgeous wall treatment in herringbone style:
I’m completely smitten with the loose, organic feel of the herringbone applied with a combing glaze technique:
Whether it’s created with tile, wood, or brick, herringbone pattern play brings incredible interest to floors as well:
Iíve even seen some amazing wall art with this versatile design:
Or how about going big and bold and doing an entire wall?
You see what I mean?  Ev.ry.where.  And I’m a little bit obsessed with it, in all its forms.  🙂

So I decided to try my hand at another herringbone piece, but this time decided to do a more modern and geometric take on the herringbone, since the piece I was making over had a more mod shape to it.

I’d love to hear what you all think!

I’m obviously a fan, but how do you feel about herringbone?  Here to stay? Or here today and gone tomorrow?

Beautiful post (and makeover!), Anne Marie–and spot on.  Herringbone IS everywhere…and I myself am not a believer in  trends, meaning I love it today and I’ll probably love it in 5 years.  It’s got me thinking about painting some floors…
