It’s about time to start working on the guest bathroom., so I’ve, of course, been pinning all of my ideas. The guest room’s blue/green walls are accented with tons of natural texture, dry brushed furniture, and metallics.
This is also the bathroom that company uses as the powder room, so I want it to tie in both with the guest room & the rest of our home.
With a little pop.
I’m quite inspired by gray lately, and I’ve known for a while I wanted to bring a decent dose of it into our bathroom.
Painting the cabinets is the first step, & to make things simple, I think I’ll use chalk paint in Graphite to keep from using oil-based products, sanding, or spraying.
Plus, I think it’ll look pretty.
When I saw this color palette at design seeds, I decided to toy around with the idea of throwing some yellow into the mix.
I’m kind of anti-trend sometimes, but I figure one rug/drop of sunshine won’t break my bank of a neutral palette.
I already have a white shower curtain, much more simple that this one, but I think I’ll dress it up with some graphic fabric…
Once I paint my cabinets, I’ll be able to decide how much yellow I want in the small space. I can always go with a more subtle rug than the yellow one featured on the design board.
I can always throw in a yellow turkish towel along with the gray ones I’ve been pining for.
Sea Salt may make its way into the room, but again, we’ll have to see how it evolves.
And…we’ll have to see how in tact our budget stays because I would sure love to have one of those schoolhouse-inspired fixtures.
Love, love, love your blog! I’ve been thinking about graphite chalk paint for our guest bath cabinet as well. I think it would be gorgeous with some hexagonal marble on the floor and white subway tilebaround the tub, but was concerned about durability around water (and my four sons). Have you used chalk paint in a kitchen or bath before? Good luck!
Thanks, Therese! I haven’t yet, but I think it’ll be great! My plan is to wax with a thin coat, lightly sand with steel wool when it’s dry, and wax again. I think I’ll buff it really well–the wax seems to be really water-repellant when done that way. I’ll be sure to maybe video a little so we can see how it goes.

That would be great. As a neophyte, the videos are really helpful!
I have been loving grays and whites this year as well. It just has such a clean simple feel to it. Love all your choices and look forward to seeing the completed bath.
Totally right, Suzanne–that’s the only reason I might not do yellow. Want to keep it clean–we’ll see how I’m feeling that day.

Excited to follow along! I’m new here and your newest follower. Bathroom renovations are fun. I just posted one! And I’m thinking about beginning my second bathroom once I figure out what direction I’m going in.

I used chalk paint to create a chalkboard on the inside of my pantry door. It is holding up beautifully, and that is with all of the writing we do on it, so I would imagine you would be ok with doing a cupboard. It is so easy to work with!!! Your bathroom will look amazing. Good luck getting it finished.
It is going to be beautiful, I love all your choices!

Love the grey and yellow – may just have solved my problem with my guest bath! I just ordered silver-backed grasscloth wallpaper but couldn’t decide on an accent color, but I love the yellow!!!
love your look! where did you find the graphic grey fabrics and turkish towels?
I absolutely love that color palette and can’t wait to see the progression of the bathroom! One question I do have though is: Do Turkish towels really work?? I know they’re all the range and they are definitely more chic looking, but am I the only one who thinks they look like you’d be rubbing yourself with a bed sheet? Maybe I need to get up close and personal with one of these things before I judge!
That looks like a great plan. I love the palette!
Just the right balance of subtle and HELLO! with the egg yokey yellow. Love it.!
This is going to be great! Love that color combo Shaunna….Be fun to see the finished “product” Have a great evening…Kim
I agree with keeping the yellow in inexpensive accents. That was you can change whenever you want–gray is such a versatile color. A bright turquoise would be pretty. Or pink (LOL). Options are endless. For us, however, we may be moving to a house with a master bath with yellow tile. So, we are also going with the yellow and gray–with a more permanent yellow.
I’m a colour person myself, and lived with daffodil yellow bathroom walls forever, before painting them white. Small rooms benefit from pale or neutral shades, of course, so while I admire your grey/white, I definitely encourage thelittle bit of colour that you plan to implement into your colour scheme. Would love to see final result. Love your blog, too.
I love this room already!!
LOVE it 🙂 I just did our builder grade oak vanity in olde white with a graphite distressed mirror, with provence and Antibes green showing slightly through in the distressing. Can’t wait for the after pictures 🙂
Just thought that I’d point out that wall sconces are more flattering than an overhead fixture (hag lighting) and are available in designs which are similar to the fixture pictured. Love the “Sea Salt”!!!
Your color palette is awesome…I absolutely love it! So modern and fresh looking! I was curious as to how you put your design board together? I see that it was done in Photobucket – I’m guessing you can just drop and move pictures around as to how you like them? Thanks!
Love this palette!! I too, am in love with those turkish towels. They’re all over Etsy, and some of them are really well priced. I’m sooooo tempted!!
May I steal some of your design board? I’ve got this guest/ downstairs bathroom that’s wall to wall weird 1960s off white tile with khaki flecks trimmed by muted yellow….sounds appealing (someone thought that was a great combo in the 60s 🙂 But I’ve got other house projects to tackle first so I’m just wanting to spruce it up for now. Love the simple color palette you got going on.
I think I’m in love with your design board! I’ve never thought about using chalk paint in the bathroom. Looking forward to seeing that tutorial 🙂
Looks like it’s going to be beautiful! Love all the colors and selections. A little yellow will be pretty with the gray and blue!
Love the modern monogram on that towel!
Girl, you created a monster when you showed that light fixture. I’m in Canada and our Lowes doesn’t carry it. Well today 3 incredibly helpful Lowes staff spent a good long time making calls and entering special order information directly from the supplier in the US. Oh yes they did. Now it’s not for certain they can get it but I should know Monday. They were so great and kept saying they will make it happen so I’m super excited. Love it!! And I’m so happy you share your amazing taste with all of us so we can benefit from it!!
Awesome bathroom design post you have shared with us, which is really inspirational for most of the people. Thanks for sharing this amazing post.
Great ideas! These bathrooms are beautiful, good choice!!
I love having a grey and white bathroom. That way I can change the look with colored accessories. Love the light fixture.
