Once upon a time, I went flea marketing with a shady lady.
Said shady lady and I came across some amazing (and cheap) finds.
One being this old shoe cart that had already received a fresh coat of paint and a little nautical treatment.
At 10 smackeroos, it was mine.
Insert my attempt at an evil laugh.
It, among many other finds, has made its way into Grayson’s room.
I think it fits really nicely, don’t you?
We’re in the process of reorganizing and shifting Gray’s room around, and this old cart will definitely add some character and hey, I’m never going to turn down more storage.
I did, however, jam my arm into a massive block of wood while removing the rope from the top corners of the sides of this thing.
It may have lost its charm for a second.
But only for a second. It’s quite cool, and if space planning actually goes according to plan, then it will reside at the foot of Gray’s newly built bed (pics on that soon).
Are you spying the other amazing find? Yes, ladies and gentlemen, that’s an old grain sack.
I’ve never seen one like it, and would love to know more about it. If you have or have the inside scoop, leave me a comment and let me know. It’s perfectly worn red and blue stripes and alternating patterns make my heart go pitter-pat.
Did I mention it fits perfectly over a king-size pillow? ahhhh….flea market bliss.
🙂
No flea market trip would be complete for me without books.
I found an almost complete set of the Readers Digest Best Loved Books the other day at Salvation Army and at .50 a piece, I basically all but ran to pay for them. That World Atlas is an AMAZING find, and while I’d love to keep the whole thing in tact, there’s a sort of deconstruction in its future.
We’re a couple of thrifty steps closer to completing his big boy more organized, de-junkified & designed space.
So spill it…what’s been your best find lately?
Hi Shauna,
What wonderful finds. Love the old shoe cart and it fits perfectly into your decor theme.
Can’t get enough of vintage grain sacks and this one looks to be very old. Love it. Lucky you.
Also, I love the name Gray. My Mom’s middle name was Gray. You just don’t hear it very often.
hugs
Sissie
Grayson’s room looks like it is awesome !!
I love the old grain sack too ~ Oh my gosh flea markets are
just the best!!
Brilliant! That piece will just grow and grow with him.
Wow! That is a beautiful and unusual grain sack. And it’s so perfect for the space!
I scored a 25 piece dining set of Currier and Ives dishes the other day at a flea market… they were 75% off, so I only paid 11 bucks for them! Crazy.
Also, I’m SUPER eager to see what you do with the Atlas! Love the sneak peak of Gray’s room!
LOVE this! What a wonderful find.
Oooh! I love it so far! I’m sure it’ll be a big boy room that he’ll love and will last a while. That is, until you get the redecorating itch. 😉
What a great find!! It looks great in Grayson’s room. Also love the Grayson picture above it. 🙂
Great flea market finds! I really like the grain sack, I bet you’re just itching to work on it! I rarely find any cool vintage stuff at the thrift stores here but I did find a very pretty glass cake stand with lid for 4.00 recently. I plan on using as a table center piece for the holidays, right now I’m working on pine cone turkeys to sit inside. Maybe a cake or two is in the future.
Oh my…that old shoe cart was a steal!!! Gotta ask…were you at Prattville Pickers? Hop over today and share your cart and thrifty books at my NIFTY THRIFTY TUESDAY party…hope to see ya there:)
Blessings,
Linda
I love flea markets and thrift store shopping. Unfortunately, where I live in Canada, it’s slim pickins. Flea markets are practically non-exsistent! 🙁 However, on a quick 5 minute dash into a thrift store a few days ago, I found a large, oval goldish-bronze mirror with a little floral detail on it. It was a steal at only $5!! (I’d attach a photo if I knew how) I may spray paint it some bright shade of pink or turquoise for one of my daughter’s rooms. However, I know that gold is making a huge comeback right now so I might leave well enough alone. I’m leaving for a 3 day trip to Kansas City, MO on November 3rd. Any recommendations for thrift stores or flea markets to hit for great home decor finds near the downtown area?
I would love to have something like that for my office. Would be so handy to be able to roll my tools around lol!
This makes me want to go shopping! That is the coolest piece. 🙂 We live by the water and love nautical/cape cod style so that is the direction our son’s room is going too. I’m just waiting a bit until I build him a big boy bed and we get some other rooms checked off our to-do. Can’t wait to see the whole room!
oh my goodness! this has got to be the cutest room ever!! And you are totally making me want to re-do my boys room. I have a Grayson too!! but we spell his with an “e”-Greyson.
Using that shoe cart was pure genius…what a find!
I found a wooden frame with hooks that I found on the side of the road…I turned it into a chalkboard and it sold a couple days later!
Beautiful. I love your finds and the elements you are adding to his room. I am partial to the sea (as I live so close to it). Both my boys have nautical inspired rooms.
I am lovin’ that cart, what a great storage piece! Looking forward to seeing the entire room!
When we were in Boone last week, I went to a antique barn and found a few blue Ball jars (can’t resist them) and an old Pepsi crate. Could have found more great things but I had two little guys with me and they really weren’t into it!
That cart is awesome. We found a couple of pieces of old enamelware, a few rusty buckets, some old glass bottles, and a rusty old bedspring and frame in our back woods a couple of weeks ago! Just trying to figure out what to do with them all. I love finding cool treasures that you can turn into something even cooler!
I bought the #4 reader from Salvation Army. Let me know if you want it. 🙂 I’m sure it belongs in your set. I love old books.
Don’t you just love a great deal?!! I have found a lot of good deals lately! My husband says that I am becoming a hoarder! I bought a cute three drawer wood cabinet for $2.50 and I plan to paint it with some ASCP. NOt sure what color yet. I plan to use it as a night stand. Now I need to find a really cute lamp.
It looks great! I love how you wrapped the ropping ~ very nautical 🙂 How fun flea marketing with the shady lady 🙂 funny!
Excellent flea market finds! I really love the idea that you implemented for the decor specially the way you decor the room. It’s simply outstanding. Thanks for the great job and excellent share. Keep it up.
