Favorite DIY Projects of 2011

By |December 29th, 2011|

Hey there party people!

My vacation this week was totally unplanned and completely perfect.

Let me tell you:  Sometimes you have to ignore all the, “but I’m supposed to’s” in your life, shut the so called laptop, and just breathe.

Take a little time to smell the Johnson’s in your […]

the perfectly imperfect christmas home tour 2011

By |December 19th, 2011|

Happy Monday, friends!

We’ve been done with our holiday decorating for a while, but I had a cookie party to plan.  Now that all the baking is done (and Ava’s done pulling it all down), I got around to taking pictures of our holiday home.

I’ll mostly […]

the perfectly imperfect christmas tree 2011

By |December 14th, 2011|

It’s that time of year.

I can just smell the cedar, fir, and cinnamon in the air.

Merry Christmas, y’all.

Our halls are (mostly) decked, and yes, it’s the 14th and I’m still going.

We’re not going crazy, but we’re definitely putting a subtle touch […]

simple Christmas mantel 2011

By |December 9th, 2011|

Y’all, I’m loving Christmas decorating this year.

Don’t get me wrong.

All these simple decorations are beautiful, and make me happy, but have no fear.  I’ll be pulling out the dancing Santa’s and colorful ornaments to sprinkle throughout the house for my little ones’ enjoyment.

In the meantime, here’s our […]

christmas is in the air…

By |November 28th, 2011|

Oh, I love Christmas.

There’s no doubt about it.  It is my favorite time of the year for sooo many reasons.

Bing Crosby, Sarah’s Wintersong album, Starbucks Christmas blend.

The sparkly decorations, the scent of pine and cinnamon in the air, footed Christmas pajamas […]

Remember that DIY reclaimed wood wall art I made for Grayson’s room?

I knew I wanted to utilize that big wall to include some storage.  He’s already got a large Ikea unit in there, so I wanted to introduce a softer shape for additional storage.

DIY reclaimed wood wall art

It’s a crafty kind of Tuesday around here!

As I’ve been pulling Grayson’s room organization/switcheroo together, we’ve collected a few new pieces for the room and are in the process of creating others.

I showed you the perfect grain sack, vintage books, and old shoe cart I found last […]

repurposed vintage shoe cart, grayson’s room, & flea market finds

By |October 31st, 2011|

Once upon a time, I went flea marketing with a shady lady.

Said shady lady and I came across some amazing (and cheap) finds.

One being this old shoe cart that had already received a fresh coat of paint and a little nautical treatment.

At 10 smackeroos, it was mine.

Insert […]

I’ll start by saying that thank you will not come close to doing justice what I felt yesterday by your warm, uplifting, and cheerful comments.  I was blown away by your support and encouragement–thank you, friends, for being mine…and for letting me be yours!

Whenever we’ve gotten our room redo on, the […]

our home–before & after

By |October 18th, 2011|

I began this blog back on Christmas day in 2009.

We were just beginning an attic renovation, and that started a decorating & design bug I just can’t shake.  And for the record, I think Matt’s caught it just as much as I have.  We just finished building a bed for Grayson’s […]

vintage ice cream shoppe signs

By |October 16th, 2011|

I rarely make impulsive purchases anymore.

I wouldn’t venture to say I think and think, weigh and measure, either…there’s a happy balance when it comes to purchasing things for our home.

So imagine Matt’s surprise when one afternoon I came hauling in these massive green vintage ice cream shoppe signs…

the antique buffet & vintage art

By |October 13th, 2011|

Back when we were filming for the Nate Show, I was pulling out some last minute vignette decorating here, there, and everywhere.

Remember that piece I’ll never paint?

Originally, it was headed for the new dining room, but it was just too much in there.  The piece needed room […]

writing room updates–then and now & a link party!

By |September 23rd, 2011|

Almost two years ago, I started this blog and a journey certainly began without my knowing it.

We began our own journey at home too…we started the renovation of our attic space.

The attic, when finished, would be three separate rooms: my office, a playroom, and a home theater.

Since […]

dining room redo resource list

By |September 7th, 2011|

To say that I’m overwhelmed with gratitude would be the understatement of the century.

I mean, y’all….you made me feel incredible yesterday.  Your comments and affirmations of things I felt already about the dining room meant the world to me…and lifted me several cheerful feet off the ground.

As stated in […]

the dining room reveal!

By |September 6th, 2011|

I’ve been ready for this one.  And I think you guys are ready for the full reveal!

A few months ago, we decided it was time to give the dining room a complete overhaul.

While we loved our furniture, it was the first set we purchased when we were […]

planked walls & some built ins

By |July 6th, 2011|

Alright!  It’s time for some dining room progress!

Remember the before?  Very heavy, very traditional…that chair moulding.  Don’t get me wrong, there’s a place for it.   But I felt like it was cutting my room in half, and not appreciating the coffered ceiling.

And […]

hall table revamp

By |April 18th, 2011|

There is more than one nook in my home that is screaming for attention.  For some style.  For my style.  But life…peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, dirty diapers, and rooms needing more help get more my notice.

But yesterday, this little nook in my hallway seemed to be hollering, “Get […]

Spring Mantel

By |April 3rd, 2011|

It seems like just yesterday I was decorating the mantel for spring last year.  Three seasons, one new camera, and no more lost-Ava-pounds later, it was time to do it again.

It all started with my flea market finds with the mantel mania queen.  It was fun bouncing ideas around […]

Dining Room Inspiration

By |April 1st, 2011|

After sharing with you that it was time to make some changes in the dining room, I began pulling together some inspiration for myself.

The things I love about the space and want to celebrate….the high and coffered ceilings, the back focal wall, the natural light and windows.  It’s simply time to embrace the casual and […]
