Oh, if I could squeeze the sun tightly and eek out any extra moments of this summer. It was too fast, too fleeting.
I have a four year old now who loves dirt and ball gowns and Despicable Me and lip gloss.
And snails.
And a boy who is growing inches by the day it seems.
Who loves super heroes and Nutella and wearing skivvies and sword fighting. And building anything out of legos.
We’ve gone to movies and the beach and the pool and had a few picnics. There’s this part of me that wants to keep it tucked away, summer.
Keep it only for us, so no one or nothing else takes its moments from my grasp.
As fall approaches and cider replaces lemonade, I am tempted to ask for time to stand still.
I close my eyes, though. County fairs, cotton candy, the pumpkin patch, and holidays are all on their way.
P.S. I’d love to hear about your favorite moment of the summer if you feel like sharing in the comments below!
My Favorite Summer moments were spent with my 12 mo. Granddaughter, Lucy! I teach preschool, and with my summer days free I decided that Lucy and I should spend Fridays together! We had so much fun, tea parties, silly songs, naps on the porch swing and ELMO (or Mo for short!!)!!! I’ll miss these Friday play dates with my Baby Lu…I guess Friday night slumber parties may be the new order of the day!!! Have a great Fall, Y’all!!
Don’t remind me! I don’t want summer to go anywhere. Your picture of the snail reminded me of a recent story I saw where a tiny tiny sea snail hatched in this little boys knee! Sounds gross I know but you should look it up.
Summer is as fleeting as childhood. My 3 little boys are now 16, 13 and 11 so the sounds and aroma of summer has changed quite a bit at our house. On certain cooler nights I am able to recapture a bit of their boyhoods as they chase lighting bugs. On most other nights, the air is filled with the sound of soccer balls and footballs and shoving and pushing and of course LAUGHTER. My babies are growing up. Summer gives me a chance to hold on to them a bit longer before they are off again to high school and middle school and driving lessons and college visits. In my heart, they are always my babies. Now they are just hidden inside bigger bodies. Enjoy summer and childhood while it lasts.
Arizona monsoons! Watching my boys run out in our rare forms of rain as we get a small break from the dry heat. Evening swims and camping in Flagstaff!
Love hearing your small town stories!!

Without a doubt, my favorite part of summer was this past week. Our family ventured to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina for a week of family fun and relaxation. But the best part……..We had a phone free week! My two teenage sons were troopers; leaving their cell phones at home as requested by me. I am so proud of both of them for staying disconnected for 7 straight days. Not one complaint. A glorious week of pool, beach, jet skis, kayaks, and lots of ping pong games! Every family with teenagers should give this a try! PS- I also joined them in the disconnect and it was exhilarating! Happy Fall to All!
