I’ve spent the last few days getting us back organized, but my mind is reeling.
I can’t wait to get started on some projects in this house!
Which ones, you ask?
See the hallway back there? See that closed door?
There’s a reason it’s always closed.
It’s our guest bathroom, and it’s not bad, but the style is non-existant. It is boring.
I’m dreaming of painted cabinetry and a punchy shower curtain.
Do you not have dreams like that? I do tend to be slightly strange.
What girl shines so brightly when she simply walks past her new big computer?
This one.
I cannot wait to paint this hutch!
Ava’s room is still in the middle of being a baby pink wonderland, and while I would not change having a sweet, pink room, we’re all ready to bump up the sophistication a little bit.
Okay, okay. A lot.
We’re going gray in her room. Charcoal gray, to be exact.
I cannot wait.
While I love our salvaged trellis headboard in the guest room, its practicality hasn’t been the best.
We didn’t want to bolt it to the wall, so it shifts and moves when company is over. Probably not the dreamy oasis I imagined our guest space being.
I have a feeling we’ll make an upholstered headboard…maybe an oatmeal linen with nailhead trim?
And who knows?
Maybe 2012 is the year I convince Matt to move Caesar’s bed out of our room.
A girl can dream.

What a fun list of projects! I did an oatmeal (not linen though) headboard back in the fall and, at the last minute, added nailhead trim to it. I have another bedroom in need of a headboard so I can’t wait to see what you do in terms of a new one for your guest room.
I can’t wait to see what you do!
We did some redecorating right after Christmas and it is such a refreshing change! I can’t wait to tackle other rooms in our house, and also share the ones we completed. I think 2012 might just be the year we finally get some stuff done around our house also!
I’m totally at a loss for my house plans this year. I’m definitely going to be doing some work on my master bedroom, but trying to figure out how to get everything to blend!
Can’t wait to see your 2012 changes!
Jessica
love, love, love your blog , energy and inspiration. Every time I read you, my project list grows!!:) Coincidentally, I am also changing up my little girls room to Gray. Watch for my makeover too! Cheers and Happy New Year.
I can’t wait to see how the painted bookshelf and headboard turn out! Those are two of my projects for the year:)
I have lots of project ideas spinning in my head for this year. I need to take a few moments, focus and write them down. I think your headboard is going to be gorgeous!
I still owe you a pic of that charcoal nursery, sorry! I’ll try to find it this evening!
Can’t wait to see your new projects! I love the trellis headboard- I would so buy that from you if you lived in my ‘hood! 🙂
Please, please, please post a tutorial on the headboard project if you go with that. also the finish on the hutch, will chalk paint go on that easily? I have a pottery barn piece
I would love to paint but I didn’t know.
Hehe the Ceasar bed comment made me laugh. I’m sure whatever you do will be Fab!
Oh I cannot, cannot, CANNOT wait to see what all you do!!!
Your home is lovely. Try to be patient. One day at a time.
Best to you,
Barbara
I love the bed in Ava’s room. I have iron and brass beds for my 6 year old. Is the brass still ‘in style’ or how would you recommend updating it?
Can’t wait to see your projects come to fruition! Happy New Year!
I’m in guest room headboard purgatory, too! We just moved our old headboard into the guest room, and it’s the wrong size for the mattress. I thought a few screws would do the thing, but things just don’t line up. Still, I’m going to keep it, and try to find other places to drill and keep it together. Aaaand because it’s brown leather (and the rest of the room is trending toward white, White, WHITE!) I’m planning on a slip cover, too. I feel your pain… Best of luck on yours. Let us know how it goes, and I’ll update you on mine, too!
Caesar’s bed! So funny! :). It is quite a massive bed, but your bed linens soften it a lot. My bedroom dream is to build Ana White’s farmhouse canopy bed. Sigh. Someday, perhaps! For now, I’m contenting myself with making a bunch of white pillow shams with lots of different textures.
I’ve got quite the list too. Our bedroom needs a primp the old and new basement need to be unified so it all looks like one house, the yard destroyed by the reno needs to be righted… 🙂
Glad to hear you’re changing out the PINK! 🙂 I took a color theory class from an Interior Designer in college who said the worst color to paint a baby/child’s room is pink. She taught, while the color may be initially calming, long term exposure to over saturation causes agitation and anxiety. Interesting that years after taking this class my mother-in-law told me for years their daughters room was pink and she would NEVER spend any time in there. Once they re-painted and changed it to blue she was ALWAYS in there, they never made the connection until I said something about it.
She (my teacher) also mentioned a story about a friend of hers who’s child begged and begged to paint the walls in the bedroom room black, finally the mother agreed and within a year the teen committed suicide. (black=depression, isolation)
I’ve never forgotten those stories when choosing colors in my home.
Ok, really though, how have I not found your beautiful blog before?!?!? I read so many house/decorating blogs through the week, & love to find bits & pieces from each one, little things I love here & there that inspire me to create similar beauty in my own home—- but THIS blog, YOUR lovely blog— it’s SO refreshing & ALL OF IT inspires; Oh, and you love Jesus, so I’m really feeling the connection {clearly!}! thanks for the inspiration & blessings to you in 2012
love your house. i am debating painting our bedroom charcoal grey…can’t wait to see your daughters!!
It must be a guy thing! I love the big bed :0). Your guest room look fantastic as well. I think those grey tones are very compelling and calming. I bet in the next few months we will be seeing a lot more of the color being used. You are a trend setter!
