Hey there, you insanely awesome and talented people!
Don’t forget to keep entering the WUSLU Giveaway this week!! Giveaway closes Thursday at Midnight.
If you follow me on Facebook & Twitter, you know I’m still kinda puny, and should be trying to clean our sickly home or wash mountains of laundry.
But all I’ve got on the brain is this hutch…
and going gray.
This is the only picture I can find of it…last year at Christmas before the walls were painted white. Before painting, I really loved the black. It was bold and neutral all at the same time. Now that the walls are white, however, it really feels heavy and it dominates that corner of our home…and not in a good way.
It’s probably also because the table and chairs are black, too, and the space is technically too small for all of that over there. But…we got it all for a great deal, and the chairs were my grandmother’s. I’ve changed them once before, but oh how the yellow and red must go. *Disclaimer: Nothing wrong with yellow or red, but it fits in our home in smaller doses now that our color palette is totally different. 🙂
In comes the gray…and major inspiration.
Ah, one of my favorite gray cabinets out there….meet Holly’s (from Decor8) cabinet. Soooo beautiful. Notice how each of these inspiration pieces rests in front of an all white or very neutral space. I love how the gray contrasts perfectly with the white walls, and yet, how soothing it is to the eye.
Another beauty. Never mind the stacks and stacks of beautiful dishes.
And Jennifer’s kitchen hutch/built in…a little more blue, and so well worn.
This classic Wisteria piece has always inspired me, and I have a feeling we’ll bring in some Old or Pure White to compliment the French Linen Chalk Paint I’ll be using.
I’m so funny…a couple of months ago, I was drawn to color, color, color. Before that, all white and natural. Now, a little mix of both. I wonder what January holds for my design/decor addiction passion?
🙂
The Nester’s “greige” hutch is another favorite, boasting a pop of personality in robin’s egg blue. (and let’s not mention that ridiculously fabulous garland she made!)
My plan is to make our hutch look a bit older, but still keep it classic. I’ll paint the chairs and recover the seats, leaving the farmhouse/trestle table black. I’m looking forward to some contrast over there in the breakfast nook!
SO. What do you think?
You all in for me going gray?
🙂
I loove the gray… and anything you do is amazing so it will be beautiful no matter what!
Go for it. Fabulous inspiration photos – doing something similar will look great!
Yes…Yes…Yes!
This is one time a gal can go grey with a smile on her face…if you know what I mean ;->
Can’t wait to see the reveal.

PS…feel better soon
2 big thumbs up for going gray! I <3 decor8's cabinet especially with her flooring. Gorgeous.
You go girl! Grey would look amazing!! I’m in the same boat as you…bought all black furniture a few years ago and was loving it! Now I’m leaning towards light and airy….seriously contemplating whipping out my paint brush too:) Maybe in the New Year. Can’t wait to see how it turns out!
gorgeous!!!!
Love the grey. Have you explored the Farrow and Ball colours? They are somehow modern and very vintage at the same time.
Woot! I LOVE grey cabinets! So beautiful. Can’t wait to see how yours turns out!
Go gray girl!
Ooh, thanks everybody!! I love all this affirmation…I would have been bummed if everyone told me to keep it black. 😉

I’m slowely eradicating all the Tuscan brown from my home with grays and blues. Still can’t go there with my hair color yet, but everything else I’m in.
Love the gray! Is French Linen gray?
I’m diggin on gray…HOW DID THAT HAPPEN??? Hmmm….
I’m all for gray too!!!! Love it!
I didn’t even know this corner of your house existed. It’s so weird feeling like you know how someone’s house looks just from some pictures, but in reality it’s so different! Anyways, ever since you pinned the pic of that first gray hutch with white inside I’ve been planning on doing a dresser I have in those colors! I’ve got the French Linen and Pure White and Old White and now I’m just waiting until I get the shelves put in where I removed the bottom drawers. Only problem is the weather has turned nasty here in Chicago and going out to the garage to work on it hasn’t been my highest priority!!
Go For It Shaunna! French Linen and Coco are my two new favorite colors! It’s going to look beautiful! Martina
Oh girl, GO GRAY! It will be fabulous!
Gray is one of the best sellers for my furniture, especially in china hutches. And I always, always leave the inside white! A great shade my client seem to love is Silver Chain by Benjamin Moore. Can’t wait to see it!
Mary
I looked for Benjamin Moore paint Silver Chain and couldn’t find it! Is there another name?
I have yet to incorporate Gray in my home but have drooled over it for 2 years! I just need to figure out where to put it. I am thinking my master bedroom somewhere.
Thanks for all the great ideas..you never cease to amaze me!
Hugs,
Natalie
Please, Please, Please go gray and show us all how to magically do it! I’ve been dying to turn my cheap, veneered, glossy Martha Stewart furniture into something like an old dingy gray.
Yes grey!! I LOVE this idea. Can’t wait to see how this turns out!!!
Lol… Gray… iPhone mix up….
I just bought the french linen & old white so I love gray! Your hutch is going to look soooooo good!!! Can’t wait to see it done! The picture that you showed from wisteria, would you say that is the light color painted first then the gray on top? I am making a cabinet (omg I hope it comes out ok) for my family room makever and am thinking of using the french linen. Also, the picture that you posted from Jennifer’s would you say the blue tone would be close to the louis blue? I just started with the chalk paint so not familiar with all the colors & how they look together 🙂 Hope you are feeling better!
Definitely all in on going grey! Loving your inspiration pieces. I love the white walls and the subtle warmth. I feel your pain (addiction) I sometimes can not decide what direction I want to go because I see so much wonderful inspiration daily from all these great blogs!
Yes! to going gray. I’m doing the same thing and, like you, I am in l.o.v.e, with Annie Sloan paint. Never want to use anything else. I did very little painting until I saw your post about it.
I painted a table and mirror (they were white)Paris Gray over Cream. Wow. It’s scary. Never thought I could make something look so good. It’s that paint. It’s so true that it’s so easy to use it brings out creativity. I painted a big bookcase CoCo and decoupaged the back of it with old book pages and sheet music. (did I really do that?) Now I’m looking at the dining chairs and they are begging to be painted…French Linen. Will use another color here and there to show through after light distressing. I love to do that. Annie Sloan paint makes me very happy. And you are inspiring. Thanks.
Can’t wait to see what you do with gray.
Thumbs up to gray. It is my favorite color (after blue of course!).
Great hutches! And gray is so chic!
Love the gray!
So funny, when I got a little glimpse of your table on another post (dont ask me which one- possibly the one on the reclaimed wood art you did in the boy’s bedroom?) I thought it was strange you had black in that fresh, bright, neutral (beautiful!) home! I do love the black on white but can totally see what you mean about going gray with this! Whatever you choose will be fabulous of course!! It’s a really pretty set you have! Can’t wait to see it!
Absolutely! It gives a piece a soft, weathered look; so pretty!
Oh I love that soft gray look! That piece would look ah-mazing in a gray!
Mmm. LOVE all the grey inspiration photos you chose! I say go for it!!!
xo,
Shannon
I love gray. It is so peaceful and calming. I also like little bursts of color too.
I can definitely picture it gray. I know what you mean about it overwhelming a space. I had the same problem which is why I just painted mine pure white. It really lighted up not only the piece but the space. I needed to keep it for all the storage it gives me. Can’t wait to see yours!
DO IT!
Yes its so attractive i liked the way you decorated the furniture. Just loved it 🙂
I think gray is gorgeous. It’s funny; I was all about color for the longest time, and even though I still love it, I find that I’m tending to go more neutral in my house just to cut some “noise” out; it soothes me a bit more when things aren’t so colorful. So right now I’m going for white and cream and brown and a touch of black; some blues and grays…just enough color to keep me happy but not to overwhelm. My boys are the noise I need in my life right now; they do a good enough job at that!
Gray is the new neutral, My entire house is turning into some form of gray and I’m loving it! I love the Hutch above, but I really love the paper leaves on top to make it pop. Where on earth did you find it?
