Morning, friends!!
We got in late last night from our whirlwind Disney trip, and I have to say, me and my four blisters are tired.
Tired and completely pumped.
Matt and I are hopping on a plane to the big apple later today, and it’s his first trip! I’m so excited to be with him while he takes in such a cool city. We’re travelers and tourists at heart, so if you’re in the NY area, you’re very likely to see him sporting a backpack and me donning my Canon 7D with zoom lens, no less.
Manhattan locals, beware.
So, here’s where I need YOUR HELP!
It’s overwhelming to me to tell him where to head first…we have basically one day and an evening. I have my thoughts, but if you’ve been, have friends or family there, or know anything little jewel we must hit….let me hear it!!
Especially any fun little bistros or restaurants, and tell me about your favorite tourist spot…we need all the advice we can get! I want to make the trip as memorable as possible, so let me have those ideas!
Have I ever told you that you guys are the best???
🙂
I love Serendipity for frozen hot chocolate. Go to Ellen’s Stardust Diner. It is a reastaurant where the waiters are all aspiring Broadway stars is SO fun. They sing throughout your meal … it’s VERY New York.
Central Park is a must.
Enjoy!
Thanks SO much, Darla!! Great recommendations!!

I swear, we live parallel lives. I just got home from Orlando last night and my hubby and I are going to NYC on Thursday for a long weekend! Ditto on the recommendations above. If time allows, go see show! Go to the TKTS stand near the Marriott in Times Square and they have discounted tickets to all the Broadway shows!
That is so funny, Susan!! Thank you for the tips!!!

Shaunna, I just had another thought…since you are there for such a short amount of time and Matt has never been before, the hop on-hop off bus tour is a FANTASTIC way to get a great overview of the city.
Yeah, I thought about that! We did that when I went, and was great….we’ll have to look into that too. 🙂
You’re awesome, btw!!

Pretty sure that I’m over the moon for y’all! 🙂 I’ve never been to NYC, so I’m no help, but I know you will have the best time! 🙂 xo
Thank you, friend! That was another reason I’m crazy! I’ll send you one edited photo of those pillows today! (and go take some better ones soon!!!)
xoxo

Hope you have a great time in NYC, is it your first visit? I live just outside NYC so I’m pretty familiar with it. You must see Central Park, you’ll get lots of great photos there. Times Square is a very touristy area, but fun to see. If you like Italian food you should check out Little Italy on Mulberry Street. There are a lot of great restaurants down there, we usually eat at Pellegrinos. I hope the weather holds out for you, it’s gorgeous here today (Tuesday).
I’m so excited for you! I hope you have an amazing time. I can’t wait to see that nursery when you get home. I’m dying to see it all! Lisa~
Shaunna you must stop at M&J Trim on 38th St? and 6th Ave in the Fashion District, heaven. The bus tour is good, Statue of Liberty definitely. I’m just outside the city (hubby works there but like many families we live outside), avoid the subway, not worth it really.
ooh, thanks so much for the tips, Jaime!!!

I just went to NYC in May…. You’ll want to go to either the top of the Empire State Building or the top of the Rockefeller Center. We went on the Circleline Cruise (WHICH IS AWESOME!!) and I HIGHLY recommend that! Even if you only have time for a short one. Also, we highly enjoyed our Pedi-Cab tour through Central Park.
You won’t want to miss Times Square at night either!
You need to go to ABC Carpet. It’s 7 floors of lighting, furniture, home goods, and cool stuff! My sister and law and I got lost in ABC for hours. It’s amazing! Also go to 1st. Dibs. it’s full of amazing vintage, retro, antique, one of a kind great furniture, decor, lighting and art.
We just got back from a whirlwind trip to NYC ourselves – our favorite restaurant is Remi – it’s modern Italian with great ambiance. We also LOVE Balthazar – definitely make reservations – but it is an NYC institution. We almost always hit up Cafe Lalo (famed from the movie ‘You’ve Got Mail’ on the Upper West Side) As for tourist spots, we love Central Park, and the Greenwich Village shopping. Have so much fun!
My husband and I LOVE NYC! We just went in July, but only for a couple of days to see Paul McCartney. We went to the Top of the Rock and the views from up there are truly spectacular. It’s amazing. Definitely take the Staten Island Ferry out to see the Statue of Liberty. It’s free and the best way to see it. You’ll have to exit when you get to the other side but you can board another one almost immediately. Little Italy is wonderful. We ate at Lombardi’s Pizzeria, dubbed as the first Pizzeria in America. There’s a wait, but it’s well worth it. They only take cash though. You must go to Central Park too. Also, if you have an iPhone, there are apps for the NYC Subway system and a Central Park app too. It will help you get around while you’re up there. Have fun!!
NYC is the best. I’ve only been once but it’s the best trip I’ve ever taken! We went to the Empire State Building at night and saw the city all lit up….looked so beautiful, like a millon little twinkle lights. Eat a hot dog from a street vendor, have breakfast to go while walking down the street, like a real New Yorker ;)… that was one of my favorite moments of my trip!
You have to go to Magnolia Bakery! They have the best cupcakes, cakes…everything! It’s my favorite…and I eat a lot of cupcakes! Here’s their site: http://www.magnoliabakery.com/.
Also…Top of the Rock is the one thing I have done each time I’ve visited NY.You get the most amazing view of the city. You can actually see (and take great pics) of the Empire State Building versus being at the top of the Emp. St. Building and not being able to get it in any photos. Check it out: http://www.topoftherocknyc.com/.
I’m from Mississippi but live in DC now…my boyfriend took his first trip with me there last year and he loved Top of the Rock.
I forgot one more GREAT resource! Cup of Jo just did a great New York travel guide–she lives there so it’s from a local’s perspective. She did several posts on everything from activities to shopping to eating. Check them out here: http://joannagoddard.blogspot.com/2011/09/nyc-guide-my-10-favorite-shops.html.
Have fun!
Enjoy! NYC is the best….we live in CT, but fell in love in NYC. It is one of our favorite places to be, and we go often. There are many great touristy things to do….Top of the Rock, Times Square, etc. They are fun, but if you want something more “New York” I’d check out Chelsea Market (adorable boutique shops…formagerie, the Milk Bar, etc), I agree with ABC Home…it’s breathtaking and super overwhelming, but as a designer…a must! Magnolia Bakery is great (Chelsea, Times Square, and Grand Central) they are known for their cupcakes, but I love their banana pudding and flourless chocolate cakes..DELISH! Bring comfortable walking shoes because the best way to see NYC is by foot. Try the street vender food….love the gyros and candied nuts.
We compiled a list of our faves for our out of town guests at our wedding. I’ve lived here 6 years and am always finding new fun things to do. A lot of these are treats for us locals in case you want to go off the beaten path 🙂

🙂 Hope this helps!!
We went to NYC this summer for 3 days and packed a bunch of stuff in. It was fun but exhausting. Looking at some of the other recommendations I would say that Top of the Rock is awesome, Times Square, Central Park, Ellen’s Stardust Diner, Brooklyn Bridge at night, we used the subway a lot and it worked well. We ate at a great pizza place in Brooklyn – but cannot think of the name of it – it is very famous, and delish and reasonably priced. It is very close to the Brooklyn Bridge. Ground Zero and the museum was also one of my favorites. Oh and the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Closing soon for renovations so take that in if you can.
Magnolia’s is okay, but Butter Lane, Chickalicious, and Sugar Sweet Sunshine are WAY better. Magnolia’s is where the tourists go, and that may be the route you want to take, but I prefer off the beaten path. The subway is the best way to get around, although it is fun to take a taxi every now and then. I agree, take the (free) Staten Island ferry. GREAT views of the S of L! Download free subway apps for your phone. Lombardi’s Pizza is great (already mentioned on here)… Eataly is fun, down by Flat Iron. Must go see Grand Central Station. Find the dome ceilinged (is that a word?) room, it is a whispering wall. Stand in the corner, diagonally across from your hubs. Whisper into the corner & he will be able to hear you. 🙂 hmmmm that is all I can think of, off the top of my head…
