To say that I was unprepared for the kind of week I’d have last week is the understatement of the century.
I was pretty pumped to hang out with my best friends, though.
Honestly, while Matt and I were so excited to help in any way we could, I had this nagging feeling we would be in the way, or simply be kind of flashing like two neon signs… “We know nothing about television!!”
But, you know what??
Like almost every other insecurity in this life, it was self-imposed. Everyone we worked with was amazing….super helpful, friendly, inviting, and mostly…encouraged us to dive right in and be a part of the work for Kev and Layla’s pilot.
We got to hang out with some of our awesome blogger buddies, like Rhoda and Lori, along with lots of others…
We got to use some pretty awesome tools and gadgets….and we worked.
It was the most insanely rewarding and exhausting week ever, very much like our trips to Honduras.
Matt rocked out helping Jason (construction manager) & Brian with all of the big construction projects, while I handled lots of paint/refinishing projects. We wound up on camera way more than I was prepared for…
And LOVE that it was usually after I’d been in the backyard working for 4 hours. I’m sure I looked amazing. 🙂
But…that is A-okay with this one.
I’m thrilled for Layla and Kevin, and I cannot wait to see how it all unfolds. They are talented and genuine, and I know they deserve all the success this life sends their way.
And I’m thankful to be along for the ride.
Just in case some of our new friends–Patrick, Michael, Sean, Jason, Jenny, Whitney, Brian, Janna, & Martin (and everyone else we met!)–stop by, I’d have to say a few things to them…
Thank you guys for welcoming us, and letting us be a part of such a cool experience. Thanks for being incredibly talented, & for making fun of my accent (because I didn’t mind one bit). Thanks for laughing at all of Matt’s goofiness, and for the appreciation you sent our way that last night. Whitney, I almost cried.
Thanks for being flat-out cool.
Yep, last week was crazy, inspiring, and maybe even a little life changing.
🙂
*On a side note, can’t wait to share a furniture makeover with you guys tomorrow, some new updates to the writing room, and more info on our dining room farmhouse table. Catch you on the flip.
What fun! I’m so stinkin excited for y’all! 🙂 Wish I could’ve been there! xoxo
I agree with you that Kevin and Layla deserve every happiness and success possible. Sounds like you had a wonderful experience, and you are one of those deserving people as well. You can tell through the computer and your posts that you are just a really good person! Hope you enjoy your day!
How cool Shaunna! I’m soo excited for ALL of you!! = ) Can’t wait to watch the show. Are you going to be helping them with any other houses? Or is it a wait and see how the pilot does kinda thing?

Hi Shaunna, Sounds like you had a fantastic week! I am looking forward to seeing more.
Hugs,
Sherry
Hey, Shaunna! Wasn’t that fun, inspiring, and OH so tiring!? I know we all had some catching up with sleep to do. What a great experience and I too, am SO excited for Kevin & Layla, they do totally deserve all the perks and come their way. I will be so excited to see this show air and we just KNOW it will!! So happy to be a small part of behind the scenes. Loved being there with you and Matt and all the other bloggers/volunteers.
Alex and I are so thankful to ya’ll for all the hard work you did! It seems like a dream, but a great dream that ends with an awesome new living room. I am still overwhelmed with everything that was done, and I know it was for a show, but it still served me and Alex personally and we are so grateful.
Thank you!
How exciting! I’m so excited for Layla and love that you were able to help her contribute to making her dreams come true. So rewarding! I love seeing all of the amazing opportunities that unfold for you guys.

haha and I just made myself laugh… bloggers – volunteers… you guys are bloggerteers! (yup, Lame City here… population ONE) 🙂
Oh, how I wish I had known beforehand that it was in Suwanee. I am in Buford and my mom lives in Suwanee. I could have helped paint or something I’m sure. Glad y’all had such a good time and enjoyed lots of hard work. Hopefully the show will get picked up. Would have been so nice to meet you and Layla in person.
Fantastic! I wonder how many of us self-impose limitations on ourselves. What a great way to point out what you can do when you stretch yourself but in a lovely, cheerful post.
Hi Shaunna! It was so nice to get to meet you when I stopped by the house last Tuesday and Friday. I was sad I couldn’t stay and help, but it was really amazing to see all of the hard work you guys were putting into the room. I cannot WAIT to see how it turned out!
Tons of fun looking at your post and lettered cottage’s recent post with all the pics! Looks like you guys all had a great time and how cool! I’m glad you are back though! I need some inspiration to start painting my furniture! 🙂
Wow it looks and sounds like y’all had so much fun! How cool would that be if the show got picked up and you and Matt got to be a part of it?? Going to have to stop over at TLC to check out more pics… 🙂 We’re glad you’re back and had a good time and now we can’t wait to see you on Nate’s show!
Oh, I wish I could have been there! I know it was an amazing time, and I am beyond happy for Layla and Kevin. Glad you got to be there for them, I know they loved having your support there.

What an experience! Without having met you two in person (you and Matt, that is), I can already tell that you’re the first ones to jump in and help wherever you’re needed. Yay for you. I hope the pilot is a great success and I’m betting it will be! They and you are so talented. 🙂
I’m so jealous that I didn’t get in on the fun! I seriously wanted to quit my job so I could join you all! 🙂 Any chance of another episode in Atlanta?! Can’t wait to see the show!
How wonderful that you got to be a part of that! Must be a wonderful (and exhaustive 🙂 ) experience.
How exciting to work behind the scenes. You get to see all of your hard work pay off. I cannot wait to see all of this on the HGTV screen!

Looks like such fun to work with such talented folks to include you and your husband. I can’t wait to see the show air. We may be seeing more of you on TV!!! Can’t wait!
I read about this fun experience over on Rhoda’s blog. You all are such special friends to Layla to help out so much. It looks like you all had a great time, but I know it was hard work too!! Can’t wait to see the pilot. I just know HGTV will pick it up. They need some quality shows!! Kathysue
It was a blast! Loved being there with all of you! I met some great new friends!
