Hey friends!
I’m having some fun checking out the projects and transformations on the first Style Feature Saturday! Head over here to link up, enter the giveaway, and get some great inspiration!! My favorites coming tomorrow!
I told you about the great gals at the local KD chapter, remember?
When they asked me about updating these two huge pieces, I was so excited to bring out those details, but let me be honest and say that I was fairly nervous. This is NICE furniture, and not that I don’t attempt to get each piece to “beyond nice”, but these began in excellent condition and had a completely smooth finish.
That’s a little different than taking a curbside find and turning it into Cinderella at the ball. More like taking Cinderella at the ball and adding some red lipstick and Jimmy Choo’s.
The girls wanted a fresh and natural look flowing throughout the house, so I envisioned white with a natural touch or texture.
Here’s what I came up with. It’s so funny; I wasn’t crazy the leaf detailing in black, but I love it now. It actually fits perfectly in my home…do you think they would notice if I didn’t deliver it Friday?
Some details…
Now it seems silly that I was worried, because I think the finish is beautiful and actually, is probably my favorite piece to date. I used my other sprayer to spray on the Varathane, and it is devine! To me, it took the finish to a more professional level…love it!
When I saw the piece, I knew I wanted to add some color to the hardware to avoid too much “sweetness and romance.” I found these anthropologie-inspired amber glass knobs at Hobby Lobby 50% and I knew they’d be perfect. I bought enough for the entire piece, but I loved the original drop pulls and I hoped the girls would let me mix them up.
They let me do my thang and I think it’s quirky and unexpected.
I’ve had a couple of questions from the sneak peek I showed you guys a couple of weeks ago. I used Ben Moore’s White Diamond, which is my go-to, in a satin finish and sprayed a satin finish Varathane to seal. Hope that helps!
What’s your go-to white??

Very, very pretty! It turned out great. My go to white is Glidden's Crisp White Linen.
This is very similar to a project I'm working on right now. Glad to hear that you use satin finish. I was thinking of eggshell, maybe I'll use the satin. Thanks for sharing. Looks wonderful
Gorgeous!!!
That is beautiful!!
These are absolutely stunning!
gorgeous!! i love those pulls, too- wish i had hobby lobby near me. boooooo!!!
It is gorgeous! Since I am just starting to paint furniture with white, I was going to ask that very same question in a post so I am interested in seeing what your readers have to say.
Awesome. At first I was in love with the piece in black because it has great lines, but I think it looks even better in white. And the choice of knobs are just the right touch. I just discovered Hobby Lobby's knob section and have quite a few that I like.
Hey Shaunna. It looks great. I love the mis-matched handles. To be honest I don't have a favourite white. Most of my paint I get for free so I tend to use whatever I've got and mix up my own tones.
This looks fantastic, Shaunna! I need to check out HL hardware section because these knobs are lovely. My go to white is Sherwin Williams – Zurich White at 50% and a custom white that I had matched & take the can in whenever I need more.
Fabulous! The detailing looks amazing. Love the choice of knobs! As for my go-to white, I have no clue. We use a lot of mistints and so I almost never know what the actual color is.
This turned out great. Love it!! The detail is so wonderful. Love & blessings from NC!
Oh! You did a lovely job on those pieces!! The KD girls are very lucky : )
Shaunna, That is gorgeous! Oh, my, I love it!
You technique is wonderful! I love the knobs! Great job!

What a fun post! I would have been a bit nervous too. I usually make the ugly stepsisters beautiful too.
Wow, I can not believe how beautiful this piece is! Thanks for sharing how you did this and the paint color!
this is a great idea…I bought an antique sideboard that I was going to sand & re-stain. I think I’ll try this..it certainly can’t hurt it!
