I am getting really excited.
We’re in the final stages of our addition upstairs. We are painting bookcases, accessorizing shelves, hanging art….all the fun stuff! We’ve still got a daybed to build, but that’s coming soon too.
I wanted to show you my latest project for the writing room bathroom.
I had plans the whole time to frame a builder’s mirror with lots of molding and personalizing it with white and distressing. We added up total costs and honestly, it was going to get a little expensive. So, when I found this beautiful antique mirror at our local antique shop
for $35, I might add, I snagged it up pretty quickly.
I love all the carving and detail. All the carvings are solid wood, and they’re not perfect…there’s some chipping and pieces broken. I don’t mind that at all, of course, and my plan had been to paint it a creamy white. But as I got it painted, it looked too expected.
I then distressed it with a sanding block, and used my Valspar Metal and Patina glaze on top to give it some aging and a totally unique look. I love how it turned out….
You like my flash peeking around the corner? 🙂
And, yes, you’re getting a sneak peek of the bathroom upstairs. It’s almost done!
I love that even the mirror has a couple of imperfections…when you see the whole room you’ll know why I wanted a little “imperfect” thrown in there. It was getting quite a bit romantic….and i like romantic, but not fussy.
Pieces like the chippy mirror (that now looks like it came from a salvage yard) and a pot of driftwood give the room some weight and rustic comfort…..cleaning up all that frilly-ness.
Come back tomorrow for a giveaway and the bathroom reveal!

Perfect! I love it! So much less expensive than lots of molding, not to mention so much easier, not having to miter corners, etc.
It looks great, Shaunna, and a great size for that area!

Hello sweet Shaunna – oh how I love the way that mirror looks in your bathroom! It's fabulous! I have two bathrooms that have the very plain builder's mirror. I'm going to be on the hunt for a couple of chippy imperfect mirrors to replace them! Great idea.
That looks so much nicer! Connie
