I was so excited to ask Kristine from The Painted Hive if she wanted to “swap blogs” for a day…I LOVE her style and always click away when I see she’s written a new post. I’m sure you remember her fab living room I featured last week! It’s an honor to have her over…hope you enjoy meeting her!!**

I didn’t need to ponder for too long about what type of post I would choose for this blog swap with Shaunna. If I know anything about her it’s that, like me, she loves a good furniture before and after!
So, here’s the before (not my photo):
Lovely, isn’t she? No?
I found this cabinet for $10 and brought it home straight away in all its yellow infused, spider hording glory – it seemed to have become a temporary insectarium towards the end of its former life!
It was a classic blackwood deco cabinet which had clearly seen better days though I had a plan….
At first I kinda wanted to strip the WHOLE thing back and go all purist on it though then I came to my senses. There was layer upon layer of paint under that yellow mask. I decided instead to go with my ‘farmhouse chic’ vision.
After a general clean up and all over sand, I stripped the top only, attached some appliques I already had to the doors then painted the base in cool white before distressing and finishing with a glaze and sealer.
I stained the top walnut, to contrast with the white base and pick up on the brown glaze, then finished it with two coats of danish oil for a natural soft lustre in keeping with the rustic feel of the old timber.
Lastly, I added some aged nickel hardware and voila, a ‘new’ cabinet is born!

I so hope you enjoyed reading my little post and that it’s perhaps stirred-up some inspiration!
If you haven’t stopped by my blog, drop in anytime! Thanks for having me, Shaunna!

Have a lovely weekend…off to visit family.  Not sure about the internet situation.  Catch you on the flip side.
